The thing is, the way he acts has no relevance to the courses and the way the course plays and is run on a daily basis. How much influence does he really have on the world of golf? Very little in my opinion
need a neutral option for me, wouldnt say he has a strong impact either way personally
These replies sum up my thoughts really. He owns several courses but how much impact does that really mean he has on the sport? What has he actually done? If he didn't own them someone else would and they'd still be operational I suspect. In terms of image, he's reasonable typical of how a non-golfer perceives golfers anyway I should think. So in summary, neither good nor bad.

He's put a lot of money into a few courses which a minute number of people have played at. Is he good for golf? No. Is he good for a few golf courses? Yes.

He might be POTUS but in golf he's an irrelevance.

I agree with Brian

don't think he's the sort of bloke I'd like a beer with, but it hasn't stopped me going to Turnberry.

I'm pretty sure he's not the person I want to be a drinking buddy with, but his courses in Scotland do look nice, certainly looking forward to visiting Turnberry in March. As previously stated, i thnik he's good for the courses he owns with regards to building/ improving them, but not sure how that translates into being good for golf as a whole.

I can't see why Trump would be good for golf in any way. Yes he has funded the building of a few decent courses - but it's not as if decent courses have been in short supply. And truth is that he is hardly a shining role model for golf - who by his very personality makes golf more attractive to play and watch. Indeed his personality and his link with golf is I suggest more likely to have the opposite effect.

That said - I am not sure how any individual would be good for golf - other than were that individual loved, admired and looked up to such that his positive impact outweighed any negative impact. So for example Harry Styles. Now there's a lad with very attractive qualities for many young (and not so young) girls - and I am sure many lads - and so yes - that he is well known as a keen golfer is probably good for the game.

But Donald Trump ain't no Harry Styles

I had no idea Harry Styles played golf.

Aren't you thinking of Niall Horan?

He's a bad advertisement for golf and indeed all things, but I think he's still 'good' (just) for Golf.

When he plays, people talk about Golf. They talk negatively about him, but at least golf is in the news. He spends money on courses. He makes a song and dance about increasing employment in the course area etc. (whether or not it materializes is different), and the courses are good. For me, it's probably a case of 'there's no such thing as bad publicity'. And he has plenty of bad publicity, and some of it is related to Golf.

Not so sure

Yeah and pretty much every media outlet keeps reporting the original comments and ignoring the denial. Does seem likely she made some sort of comment though.

oh the standards of modern journalism, as long as we repeat it enough and if enough people want to believe then lets not worry about the integrity of the article :)

It's not relevant to this article and is mentioned as a contrast to how the majority of pro golfers have reacted to Trump. If you didn't read it you should have before jumping in on a tangent.

i read it, personally think its very relevant, just think its very hard to give much justification to an article based on something which has already been claimed to be untrue at least to some degree

as for how the pros have reacted to him its pretty anecdotal stuff rather than lots of views

It's not even remotely based on these comments. On the contrary, if he'd discussed Petersen's retraction of the comments it would have made the case even stronger.
