I've got an iPhone 3G, and upgraded to OS 4, which turned my iPhone into a 'Dog' performance wise.

I then upgraded to 4.2.1 which helped out in the performance stakes no end, but now I have serious issues with my wifi signal/reception.

Before I upgraded I could get wifi throughout the house from my BT router. Now, even if I am sat next to the damn thing I only get 2 bars, and if I venture more than 10/15 feet from the router I get no signal at all.

Anyone else upgraded to 4.2.1 seeing this problem, or have I just dropped my phone once too often? :D

I have a 3gs but to be honest apart from slowing a little, I have not noticed any wifi issues.
Have you tried resetting it?
Hold the home button and the power button together so the slide to turn off is shown, keep holding until it resets and the apple logo shows. Might help a little.

Yea 4.2.1. 8c148a. You could try restoring with iTunes if you chose to backup before running the upgrade. I take it your handset is over a year old? I took my original 3GS back to apple and had it replaced free with a new one as the upgrades had totally destroyed reliability and everything kept resetting it, including during business calls which doesn't give a great impression.

I think I'd rather stick with 4.2.1 with my crappy wifi than go back to 4.0 and he slowness.

Yep, it is, and in fact my contract could be renewed in Feb, so I might just ride it out until then and buy a 4.

Redwood, ignoring the signal strength meter on the Iphone for a second, would you say that the actual wifi performance is worse post upgrade?

There is a difference, perhaps Apple changed the meter in 4.2.1 and who knows it might be accurate now. In other words you may have had poor RSSI all along but you would have been oblivious to it.

Just an idea.

Had no issues running the latest version but I'm running a i4. Currently upstairs in the back room, router is done stairs in the from room (technically the furthest point of the house away from me) yet I'm getting full bars.

As someone said maybe your meter on the upgrade is mire accurate, or naybe your router is on the blink. What's your strength like when at work or on other wifi networks

It's not the router as im not having issues with my laptop, and places where I used to get wifi in the house I no longer do, so it's definitely the phone.

Could be Ive damaged the wifi when dropping it.
