How long do you think you would have to wait before getting a reply ???

1 or 2 days ??

I sent a email last week and I've still had no reply I have to ask why bother list the email address on the Club website if the person Ain't prepared at least to give a reply

Speaks volumes of the man's character ..

Sad reality is I can order from a website and it arrives quicker LOL ....

It is a known fact in Club Manegement that you should kill emails within 24 hours or 80% will have gone elsewhere.

A reply within 24 hrs is a must....no reason not to unless the Secretary does not have the info at hand that is asked for...even so he should inform you of the situation to keep you in the loop.

This would depend on a number and you are very quick to condemn without explaining (if you know) the circumstances. Is this secretary a full time employee of the club, what days is he on duty, you can't expect a reply on his days off. Many club secretary's are doing the job in a voluntary capacity and have other full time work, Could this guy have been inconsiderate enough to have taken a holiday.

It depends on the content of the mail. It might be something he has no jurisdiction and needs to refer it to the relevant committee which may not sit for a week or so.

I don't think you can necessarily critiscise without at least asking him the question as to whether he's received it (could someone else be dealing with it) and what he's done. The fact that you say it speaks volumes about his character seems to imply you don't see eye to eye anyway. Is it possible that the friction is causing the delay. I know from my own experiences in work that there are people who have hacked me off or caused me trouble and so when it comes to them needing help I'm a great believer in what goes around

Prior to joining Highwoods last April I sent an email to the club asking for their stance on DMD's. I still haven't received a reply.

Playing in the Mens Open at Hever Castle on May 2nd this year. Three weeks ago I sent an email asking if they were offering a cheap green fee option for participants prior to the event for a "practice round". I still haven't recieved a reply.

To be fair to our secretary he does answer you within 24 hours however ours is a full time position. I'd imagine he's rather busy at the moment as well, chasing up late fees, and dealing with the numerous complaints about the state of our course.

On the bright side we ONLY had 9 winter greens on at the weekend.

Very poor if you ask me, even if he's not in a position to answer you directly he should have emailed you telling you when you could expect a reply. I emailed 5 local clubs recently as I'm looking to move. All 5 replied within 24 hours, even Royal Liverpool who told me he could not answer my questions directly.

Bottom line here is that part time secretary or not a club should be run as a business. Just leaving e-mail for days on end just isn't acceptable. There should be cover for holiday periods etc. It's just extremely unprofessional in this day and age to simply ignore e-mail communications. Having said that it doesn't surprise me one bit.

If they are part-time or on holiday etc., they should put an 'out of office' auto reply on. If they have received it and cannot help straight away, they should acknowledge receipt and tell them what happens next.

There are certain instances when this can and does not happen, whether by accident or deliberate laziness, but yes, it's nice to have a reply asap.

I'm completely in sympathy with the OP. Five calls to the membership secretary, only ever got a recorded message, never got a replay.
I don't care if he was on holiday. March is membership month; someone should have been deputed to answer the bloody phone.

Morning all

Perhaps all these people sending e-mails should try picking up the phone and trying to talk to the Secretary.

I would have more sympathy if the ones waiting for an e-mail response had tried that as well.

As an ex Secretary who was part time i agree that people with querys should get an answer ASAP, but sometimes it does take a while of course.

Im not trying to excuse bad practice, but there are other avenues. I know that e-mail at my club is not always the best way.
