What course is that on and was it a 4 man scramble? Without seeing the course I would expect very low scores on a very short course unless it was extremely difficult.
Obviously the hole in one is lucky.

I played in a scramble last week on a course a more than a thousand yards longer in tough conditions and we shot 11 under, we were 7 under on the front 9 where we missed a couple of eagle chances, then had a run of 4 pars to start the back 9 where we just couldn’t hole a putt. We were inches from shooting 57/58.

It’s using the ladies card because it’s a mixed competition

The par for the men is 71 and 600 yards longer

Two of the par 5’s are par 4’s

As Phil said, it was played off the yellows but to the ladies par.

I never go out to win these things, my main thing is just to try and take on the course and have fun, which we very much did.

And that's why people just don't bother with Texas scrambles anymore when you can't win with a round like that. The one at my course earlier this year was won by a team that had 2 7 indexes, a 26 index and a 30 index who shot a gross 62 (-10) between them that gave them a net 49. I think you had to have 3 or 4 tee shots each as well.
When you say "people", you presumably mean people who only enter opens because they want to win. That isn't everyone's objective. I just enjoy a day's golf with my mates for lower than normal green fees.

I guess I was being too generic with the statement but I know most of my mates initially will say no to playing in a Texas scramble as "there's no point, too many cheats". Even the pro at my club basically said the same thing about them "people aren't playing them as too many people with magic pencils".

I get some will be happy to play in them for a cheaper round of golf or a more relaxed game but I think the vast majority that do enter them go into them thinking they have no chance of winning so may as well have a decent day of it. It really shouldn't be like that.

Millionaires golf last night on a bank holiday evening. Tee'd off at 6.30pm, decide to play Bogey format off the yellows, which gave me 7 shots to work with

1: Par in 5...all square
2: Double bogey 5...1 down
3: Bogey 5 nett 4...1 down
4: Par in 3...1 down
5: Par 4 nett 3...all square
6: Bogey 5...1 down
7: Bogey 6 nett 5...1 down
8: Bogey 5...2 down
9: Birdie 3 nett 2...1 down
10: Par in 3...1 down
11: Par in 4...1 down
12: Par in 3...1 down
13: Double bogey 7 nett 6...2 down
14: Par in 4...2 down
15: bogey 5 nett 4...2 down
16: par in 3...2 down
17: Birdie 4 nett 3...1 down
18: Bogey 5...2 down

A pity that I wasted my birdies on shot holes!!!

The changes to the scramble HC allowance have made it very very hard for a team of low HCs to win or even to challenge for winning

When it comes to scramble teams are going to go around under gross - team getting 17 shots before it even starts . Recently a team went 22 under gross - and still didn’t come top 5

Their “formula” that they have made up as made it imbalanced and we have players now not bothering with them

Same :poop: different day.

Had today off to play a round with my dad and my wife, we went to The Hertsmere. Started nicely with 3 bogeys and a par, but then the wheels fell off as they always do. Carved two balls Oscar Bravo on the 5th then three doubles in the next four holes. Duffed a couple more balls into water on the back nine, lost another with a ridiculously bad strike with hybrid that went about 40 yards right of the line I was trying to hit and the wrong side of a bunch of trees. In total I lost about six balls I think which is absolutely unheard of. Finally made a second par of the day on the 17th. Finished up with about 24 points, barely breaking 100.

I've lost all hope and not really enjoying it at the moment.

Only highlight was my wife's back nine performance, after 13 on the front she doubled that on the back nine with 26 more! 39 total for a comfortable win as my dad was even worse than I was. 😆 Time to cut her again... (In a handicap sense I mean, I haven't taken defeat that badly.)

Played tonight on a reciprocal at Buckingham Golf Club.

Started off with a great birdie on the 1st and had a very solid 3 over front 9.

The back continued in a similar vein, I even made a fantastic par on a short par 4 after hitting it into the water. An annoying double on 17 threatened to derail my round but a par at the last meant I carded an 8 over 79 playing off of 13.

Played my final game at Tyrrells Wood with my host, our first head to head with out anyone else, so a real grudge match.

Made a birdie on the first and was never headed, so finished with a win, played my best golf since I have been here, 2 over when we shook hands.

First time for us both at this venue so no advantage to either of us.

One of the best drives into a club, million pound homes everywhere.

Have had a great time here again, thanks to all.

I'm the other way and since going to the Eureka swing feel totally engaged and confident. Just can't physically do it which is soooooo frustrating waiting for the back to heal. Woud rather be in a poor run and chopping it and wouldn't feel I'm missing out

Sunday will be President's Day, but today was President's Day for seniors. It was also LOBSHITE day - Loss Of Best Score, Handicap Increase To Endure.
Worst case scenario was that I would go from 4.4 to 5.1.
Well, it appears I have managed a wee bit of damage limitation on that. Will still go up, but not that much. Yellow tees, par 70, CR 69.1, SR 127.
Course is still playing very long with zero run on the fairways. It was up-and-down with the brolly for the first 4 holes.

240530 score.jpg

3rd hole is our longest par 4 and I holed out from 20 yards. Very interesting to have only 3 putts in the first 4 holes!
Typed the scores in the lobby and I was leader in the clubhouse on 35 points after 12 scores in out of a total of 38 entrants.

After all 38 scores were in, I came -------------wait for it----------------1st.

So a fairly good chance of a PCC of +1 or even +2 to further limit the HI increase.

Well there we have it.
Lowest handicap player in the field wins a nett comp and gets a handicap increase. Hardy-ha-ha.

(EDIT: PCC of +1, Score Diff 4.4, exactly same as HI, increase of HI to 4.9)

Turned up today having not played since last Tuesday. Full of head cold verging on Manflu. I went because I am fed up of decorating although it’s nearly done. Didn’t know it was a Stableford comp and wasn’t bothered about entering but Tricky Trev persuaded me. 38 points later and I am leading the comp with 4 to play. So I will probably come 5th.
It felt sweet.my putter was on fire. A 2 for 4 points helped. Odd but I got 38 points in club comp, 37 points in fuddle. Came second in front nine, back nine and overall in fuddle but am winning club comp on count back 😁👍 plus a two

After seeing an upturn in my form recently I had my best round of the year so far today, albeit still just over my handicap, I played well and had 10 pars, my only blips were on our 5th when a thinned pitch was followed by a duffed chip and I had a triple bogey 7, I had a gross 82, 10 over par and I will get a 0.1 reduction, I was losing on of my best 8 so any cut is good.

I played at The Buckinghamshire today.

Absolute 5star place. Service up there with the best I’ve ever seen. I love the nature of a “everything is complimentary” club - valet parking, free range, welcomed by staff at entrance, visitor names on lockers, golf clubs cleaned after your round, staff escort you around the clubhouse, take a handful of tees.

Conditioning of the course was also immaculate. Parkland isn’t my cup of tea but I thoroughly enjoyed the day.

I wouldn’t fancy paying their membership fees though 🤯

Usual one game and out in the match play. Played with a smashing lad who was off 12 but played like an 8. Smashed the ball miles. Lord, rarely got his driver out. Only one sliced tee shot all round. Chipped like a pro. Rolled in some brilliant putts too. I never played that good when I was off 12. Hung on for as long as I could, but lost on 16. Great game though.
Sadly, we talked about the goings on at the club, as he said he was leaving for pastures new next year due to everything that my group were complaining about, and have left because of. It's the greenkeepers!

Roll up at ours this morning. Having not played my own course for about ten days I was absolutely stunned at the depth and thickness of the rough. Every year I think it can’t get worse, and every year it does.

I struck it well but anything even remotely wayward isn’t now just punished. It’s invariably lost. Extremely narrow fairways giving way to a very lush first cut, in turn giving way to a second cut which is just stupid. If a ball rolls just into the second cut it often can’t be found - if it goes more than a few feet in don’t even bother looking.

I scored okay, but it’s just not fun. Loads of withdrawals from tomorrow’s monthly stableford, and lots of members, myself included, now starting to talk about moving elsewhere.
