How much will I need to save?

Does tend to with Drivers (though there are some aberrations).

I certainly found the G15 'better' than the G10 which was better than the G5, which was disappointing compared to the G2 - though the G2 was something of an epiphany for Ping, so much better than the TISI!

Funny you should say that. I found the G10 better than the G15. Haven't tried the G20/25 so can't comment how good they are

So what is it you do have a problem with and why is it you can't be bothered to explain it to me? Seriously I would like to know please.

It's you with the 'I shall not be buying off the peg' attitude. If you want to get custom fit good for you,I genuinely hope you enjoy it & get good results. But to dismiss "off the peg" as been a waste of time & money just because you've read a load of figures is a bit naive. Now I'd love to get more technical with you,but Eastenders is on :whoo:

H'mm. What driver are you using? I've seen you sig btw.

Another 'regretted sale'?

G20 seems a bit of a combo of (best parts of) G10 and G15 - or a more forgiving G10. Haven't, yet, tried the G25.

None beats my 9015D though so, as that's an oldie too, I've breached that 3 year period myself!

You have made a brilliant, elequent point and I have made a fool of myself. People have been telling me all the time that its just me with my chat about off the peg kit, it makes them so angry!!! I was worried that you were embarresed that you had made a fool of yourself as you could not justify anything you have said buy you have nailed it.

Please alow me to try and talk my way out of this tight spot, I won't get technical as I don't want to confuse you and Ricky.

I thought it would be better to go to... I don't know... Ping and have my stats checked, try a bunch of shafts on a launch monitor, have them adjusted to your optimum launch and spin for best results and pay exactly the same as dropping into AG and buying it of a child who potentially has no interest or knowledge of golf clubs beyond there mark up.... I think your way is better as you seem to have taken time to look into this and educate yourself.... Man, you go deep!

What we really should be talking about is the issues on everyone's lips like what we should do if we are drawn against a scratch player. How did that work out for you Ricky.. The rickSTAR!! Did you bow when he came on the tee when he arrived like your meant to. Did he get a happy ending??

I must admit mate, after reading this thread you really are coming across as a bit OTT.So what if the man likes a custom fit,no need to get so personal with your attitude.Alex I really hope you enjoy your session, and if I were you I would get fitted by Titleist, they have some awesome shafts to try, good luck man!

I'm not really confused by what you've written, but you seem to be confused by my name as you keep getting it wrong. Unless your doing that on purpose to try and belittle me. If its the latter then well done.

I didn't end up playing with the scratch golfer, the competition was shuffled around due to some people dropping out. He was in the group behind me though so I was waiting by the 18th to give him his 'happy ending' as you put it.

I hope when my handicap drops I don't develop the same attitude you have over the past few weeks

I've put top end drivers as a custom fit and off the peg. My take is that both have their benefits and to be honest at my standard of play there will be good and bad days off the tee. Does some super duper shaft maake a difference. Arguably and it comes down really to getting on a monitor and trying as many makes and shaft options as you can. There might be a shaft that gives you optimum numbers or there might be several that are much of a muchness and could well include the stock shafts.

Nothing wrong with going for a custom fit. It is good fun and usually educational so if you've got your heart set on a C/F then why not. However, why not try a few stock models before you go to get some kind of ball park figure and who knows you might just find that suits.

I was fitted for the Titleist 910 driver a year ago at Celtic Manor. The launch monitor will tell you which is the best shaft for your swing. Some of the exotic shafts are very expensive for very little gain over the standard shafts. I came away with the Aldila RIP 60 even though like you I was prepared to pay lots more for a "better" shaft. Just believe what the launch monitor tells you, it does not lie. Remember to take your old driver as you hit that first so that the fitter has something to compare against.

Well said Homer. As I already stated I'm by no means appose to custom fit. But on the other hand I wouldn't rubbish off the shelf.

Same driver spec as mine mate quality piece of kit. I did not get custom fit for it was not happy with the shaft I had in it originally and saw a second hand driver for sale in a pro shop tried it and knew instantly it was the one for me and the guy in the shop only charged me a tenner for the shaft and I gave him my old shaft to put in his second hand club and that was it. To the OP if you have some spare cash then go for a driver fitting but don't think it is going to be miles better than an off the peg one

Or maybe all the tech talk makes him feel like a better player:o

Comments like that are just rude mate, plain and simple! I can't image you would act like this in the flesh, you started off being sound but all of a sudden started to be very rude for no good reason, why? This forum used to be a friendly place,no need for aggro at all surely?
