How much will I need to save?

Hi All,

I am going to get some new wedges and then I am going to save my tobacco money for a proper driver fitting at Precession Golf or Titleist. At a guess I would think I will go to Titleist. About how much should I need to save? Are we talking £400 with shaft upcharge. I know no one can say for sure but I would like a ball park. Are most shaft upcharges about £80-120ish?

Thanks,

Alex

To give you an idea look at Snaintons site
They give upcharge costs for many shafts if you look at, say, the 913 and customfit yourself.....

Nice one, so £25-£175.... not too ball park like but a very good idea.

thanks bud

I would say it depends on how 'exotic' the shaft is you choose.

Something like an Oban Devotion would pro probably more expensive than a UST Proforce.

If you decided on some of the exotic Matrix shafts they can run pretty expensive too.

To answer the question........ I have no idea

what shafts will you be looking to put in them that will bump the price up so much?

sorry, read that wrong. I though you were looking £100+ shafts for your wedges :o

Gold plated!! :)

Ye, I would not want anything too exotic but I would not like to go to the fitting and find something wonderful that I could then not afford. I would like to save enough to have options.

Do they give you a best stock shaft, best reasonably priced shaft and the best exotic shaft options at these things?

The shaft at precision golf was the most expensive for me, they gave me options on the club heads so I could tailor my budget accordingly. But if you go there, and this all happens ask them about club head weight, as the will make the shaft react differently, and you want the the same as you have selected the shaft on.

How much improvement do you think you are going to get from a driver fitting....with posh shaft or not?
50 yds more?
5 yds more?
5 ft more?

A Rottweiler wearing lipstick is still a Rottweiler

Oh I do not walk around with my head in the sand bob, I am well aware that we are talking about very small margins here. I work every day on my swing, I take lessons and I play as much as I can, what is left for me? On top of that every penny I have earned for the last few years has been swallowed up by the household. I have been using the same driver for the last 3 years and its actually looking pretty tatty.... If I am going to spend £300 off the shelf then why not, in this case, spend a few more quid for something special.

If you have another idea how the money could help my golf more then I will do that, not think about it so it!

Bob is right the shaft I had put in was around £220 it is a lovely shaft but that money will never be recuperated and there are other shafts that perform in a similar fashion for a fraction of the price. The point is the brands generally have something suitable and they will be available in different price brackets. So if you get fitted ask about recommendations or similar shafts in different brands, if you hear anything nah they are all different and this one is the best, walk away this is not an independent fitting this is a fit up! A good fitter will know which type of shaft are available and suitable to you and should give you at least 3 options ranging from sub £100 upwards etc..

i don't think you will have to save up much if you go to titleist, unless you have an extreme club head speed.

i reckon you will be covered in the different standard shaft options

if you go the precision golf on the other hand...

Look at the tour players.
They are fitted up to the eyeballs with the latest equipment and they still manage to spray it all over the park.
I know you work hard at your game and why not spend some of your hard earned on a new big stick.
All I'm saying is dont waste your money on a super duper club that wont give you any more performance than a nice G10 would.

Yep, there is some great advice in this thread, if there are two shafts that perform the same I will be getting the stock or cheaper one. However this whole thing has made me want a B&H so I may never get to the fitting :D... Kidding.

Have I read this wrong or are you trying to get shafts for your wedges?

Call me uneducated, but I think the shaft for wedges is too short is going to make any difference. Stick to stock steel and save the money for the drivers (or take up smoking)

Hehe, no you have read it wrong or I have written it wrong.....

Did the whole driver fitting things a few years back, whilst it was an interesting experience it wasn't the answer I thought it'd be.

Certainly wouldn't consider shelling out some of the money being touted nowadays for an upgraded shaft.

I had a TM Burner 2.0 Superfast driver with a 10.5 loft and stock Regular shaft. Recently, got lucky with another magazine and landed a Nike Covert Driver. Was at the fitting at American Golf, the pro had one look at what I call a swing. As an ex-cricketer, I dont have much of a backswing, I take it up shoulder height, but then I can accelerate very quickly to get to the 95-105 speed. That made my regular shaft a bit whippy - exaggerating my slice. So he asked me to move to a stiff shaft. Now I am lot more confident and slice is more of a fade. Now I walk around the course with a stiff one :)

Again, not a fancy shaft, just Nike's stock Stiff shaft and it is doing wonders. You might want to consider different shaft types rather than just a fancy shaft.

Thank you vkurp, if you have a look in my sig you will see that I have a driver with a sexy shaft in it, I am a bit of a shaftoid. I do not have a problem with my driver, its just been in the bag a long while now and is tatty. Off the shelf stock shafts are not really my thing unless there is an option of several.

Having chatted with a buddy over lunch who read this post I think I shall be going another way....

 for G10. I've flirted with other drivers but its by far the most forgiving I've hit.

Coolio, its kinda not what I look for in a driver though... with a 460cc head it is hard (not imposable) to miss the sweet spot....
