Just a thought after having been out practicing the other day and came to green that had a large number of unrepaired pitchmarks on it. I proceeded to repair 15 of the dam things.

Often when I step on a green I will make the effort to repair at least 3 in a similar area (if there is any at all) as well as my own if there is one. As long as it isn't going to slow down play etc.

Anyone have a similar approach to pitchmarks?

Too Many

I repair any that I see, if I'm waiting for other players to putt out I'll have a look away from where they are and repair any I see. Usually at least 4 or 5.

I cant believe how many people do not repair their pitchmarks. I am one of those people who will collar offenders at the 1st chance and remind them that they are causing damage and ruining the greens for groups behind.

All for the sake of 10 seconds effort in patching up their mistakes. I always tell them if they are good enough to hit the green from that far out to create pitch mark, they should know the etiquette of sorting it out.

I repair as many as I can without holding up play.....

this

it really annoys me when I see the green littered with pitchmarks.

I do feel that if the club were to give out free pitchmark repairers with all new memberships it may help, however seeing as you can buy them in the starters box for a mere couple of quid there should be no excuse really.

^^ This. Hate seeing them and quite like repairing them and leaving a nice flat green where a huge dent once was.

There's something very satisfying about repairing a pitch mark so well that it disappears.
Less satisfying when it's the 4th one on the same green

You know how you say what make of ball you are using on the first tee?
Maybe it should be part of good etiquette to show that you have a pitch repair tool in your pocket too.

Ever asked to borrow someone's tool on eg the 8th green.
"I've left it in my bag£ they reply.

So what have they been using for the last 7 holes....?

As many as I see. I actually wrote an e-mail to our committee a couple of monhs ago complaining about the number of unrepaired pitch marks on our greens which resulted in communication to members reminding them to do it.

However, I played with 3 guys yesterday, a couple of whom I had never played with before and neither of them even tried to find a pitch mark to repair. On one hole there was a pitch mark no more than a foot from one of their balls so I asked if he minded repairing it for me which I thought was quite subtle. He did it but that was the only one he did all day.

It winds me up so much that people don't bother, it's not like it difficult
