Slaley hall (the main one, Huntsman??) had to walk off after taking 4 hours to play 13 holes, due to slow play everywhere. We had a 30th birthday in Newcastle later that night.

Plus a few others in the north west in "opens" that I can't remember all, but a few more around Burnley, Manchester.

Hope to fit in or accept invites next year for West Lancs, Birkdale, Sandiway and hopefully succesfully apply for an open at Hillside, after unsuccessfully leaving oit to another last year. Maybe Cruden bay also.

I think that is all...... a poor year for me newbies wise but I have played a lot of tracks that I have played before....in fact I have played more golf away from home than I have at my home club!

Royal lytham....Good/Brutal. But not as good as I expected.
One of my first this year too and I'd agree about the course. It's just a golf course and there must be 100 or more as good around the UK. Played it again a few weeks ago and again thought that at end of the day it's just a golf course, in great nick admittedly but still just a golf course. However, the buzz in the clubhouse with history all around is just such a brilliant experience and that for me is what sets these sort of courses apart. Had dinner in a room with a painting of Bobby Jones on the wall with the club he hit the famous shot on 17 in the 1926 open on display underneath.....not to mention all the open winners memorabilia adorning the walls of the landing. Awsome place, propper shivers down the spine stuff.
