Albatrosses are very much like hole in ones, you tend to recall them quite vividly. Even years later.
Yep, 2011 on our Par 5 7th, good drive then caught my 3 Wood lovely, knew it was towards the green, but fairway slopes from left to right by the green and there is a bunker on the right, thought at most I might of reached the bunker, no sign of it when we got there.

Went to see if I’d gone through the green and found it when I checked the hole on the way. 😬

The first HIO I ever witnessed was on a par 4.
And the chap who had it was playing in a bogey comp - what a waste!
Our 4Ball witnessed one on our Par 4 9th, waited for the guys behind us to see whose drive it was, only to find out the guy was 3 off the Tee as his first ball he hit OOB. 😂😂

1 eagle on a par 3 in competition.

1 eagle on a par 4 in competition.

Not sure how many on a par 5 - probably 5+ including yellow tees.

But the eagle 3 in competition was part of one of my best rounds ever to win a big two-day event.

Birdie on a par 3 treated better than an eagle ?

A HIO will be seen as better because it’s completing a hole in one shot - yep stat wise it’s 2 under par but surely it’s clear to see why it’s seen a little differently
Indeed....
The majority of club comps will have a 2s pot.....
Get a birdie on a par 3 and you get rewarded...get an eagle and it's...Just an eagle
There's no Eagles Pot.......
Get an eagle on a par 3 and all sorts of things happen.

Yep - got one in 2008 at Springs near Wallingford

3rd hole - the thinnest 3 wood second shot from about 230 and some how just kept running nearly went into the bunker but smacked the pin and droppedn

That’s a nice hole, looks good to the eye from the tee

Prefer the feeling of your first HIO or the Albatross?

I’ve put 3-5 because I can remember holing out from the fairway on a couple of par 4s in recent years, and I’ve probably chipped in once or twice too. I’ve never had a proper eagle though. I don’t really hit the ball far enough to reach a short par 4 or a par 5 in 2 very often! It has happened but I’d remember if I holed a putt for an eagle.

The problem is if I do have a putt for an eagle, I’m more concerned about securing the birdie, which is another rarity!

None for me. Only ever been on a par 5 in 2 (quite downhill) and lipped out on the putt. Never driven a par 4, not really played many and none on my home course. About 12" is closest I have come to an ace.

Just playing Devil's advocate, that's maybe because anybody could get a 2 on a par 3, but rewarding eagles favours the longest hitters who can do it on a par 5 or short par 4.

You still win the 2s pot if you get a 2 on a par 4 though don't you? Or a 2 on a par 5? 😆 I didn't think it had to be a birdie 2.
