Scoring an ace is purely a chance event. However, the more you play, the better your chances are at scoring an ace.
I am in my 3rd season, and have had a few close ones (some which I then par-ed or Bogied).

Question for the regular swingers. How long was it before you scored an ace? And have you had any subsequently?

35yrs and still waiting :(

Some never get one, my first was 2 years after starting then got another the year after.

I was speaking to a guy at the weekend at an away club match, he was their club president and had his first HIO last year he's 90!!!

Not sure if that's how it works. I'd have thought the odds remain the same each time you play like the lottery, not a decreasing value giving better odds each time you go out

Anyway still waiting for mine, I think it'll happen this weekend though

18 years and still waiting been scary close a few times!

Was joking with Nashy t'other day (see the U.S. Open final round) that we hit the ball too well to get one as most people report theirs to have been lucky bounces or daisy cutters!

I got one at Wigan golf club on a coperate golf day. (was after about 5 years) Struggling to hit greens at the moment:smirk:

Bit of a fluke as I thinned a 9 iron, which just caught the ruff at the front of the green which slowed it up and it rolled niceley into the hole.

Im more chuffed whenever I birdy a hole especially when Ive used some thought and it came off... With a nice put with some read involved.

Only done that a couple of times, but much more satisfying than the HIO....

It took me approx 6 years to get my first one but in the space of a year and a half I had 4 to my name, they were all at my old club. I moved to my current club approx 7 years ago and had another a year or so ago now. So that's 5 in total.

One of our older members who unfortunately passed away a couple of weeks ago had 17 to his name!

I've had a couple pitch within 2 feet of the pin, but never have I thought that it had a chance.....maybe one day

Not wishing to remove you from the 'Forum Warrior' title crown, but I imagine he means that playing more often increases your chances to obtain one over time (as opposed to on each outing), as you well know - you little stirrer! Shame on you

I had my first lesson and first hit a ball on a course when I was 8. I'm now 35 and I had my first hole in 1 a few weeks ago. I've played a lot of golf in them 27 years including being a member at 2 nine hole tracks which had 10 par 3's between them (per loop)

My "unofficial" one came 4 years after I began seriously.

Not been particularly close in the following 16 years though, a few 12-18 inchers and some that had a peek in on the way past but that's all.
