How long before your first hole-in-one

20 years and still waiting, hit a few flag sticks

i once played a par 3 in a comp, hole in one got a BMW M5, i thinned mine into the lake

Got one in 1999 at a local 9 hole course near Sunniside, it was the day before my wedding, the first one that is ;)
Longish hole and I used a 7 iron IIRC, one bounce and it disappeared into the hole :)
Not bad to say I barely ever played back then.
Actually does this count as it wasn't on a bona fida 18 hole course?

Not wishing to remove you from the 'Forum Warrior' title crown, but I imagine he means that playing more often increases your chances to obtain one over time (as opposed to on each outing), as you well know - you little stirrer! Shame on you

Honest guv, bigger boys made me do it ! ;)

32 years after first joining a club, I am still waiting. I have been 1" away once at Hillside and inside 6 inches several times.

On a more positive note, I only had to wait 5 years for my first (and only) albatross.

I have also holed mid to short irons from the fairway on 4+ occasions but never done so from a tee on a par 3.

I will be delighted when it happens, or should that be if?

Question for the regular swingers. How long was it before you scored an ace? And have you had any subsequently?

1st (...... And only) ace came after about 6 months of playing.

6 iron into a 157 yard par 3. 1 bounce and rolled out straight into the hole.

Had a few close since, including this:

But not had another since.

I hit the pin on my very first round and ended up only a couple of feet away.
I've also finished within a foot on another occasion.
But 22 years after joining my first club I'm still waiting.

Scoring an ace is purely a chance event. However, the more you play, the better your chances are at scoring an ace.
I am in my 3rd season, and have had a few close ones (some which I then par-ed or Bogied).

Oh dear - what a question - and my view is that it's just luck in the end when and if you get one. I've been playing 40+ yrs and not had one - and can't say I've ever been close enough to think I was darned unlucky as it's not like that. Closest maybe 4" - but that's not really close.

I've had quite a few long eagles - whcih in many ways are similar but nobody ever asks about these. No albies.

If everything about playing a par 3 was the same every time you played it then play it a lot and yes - I imagine that eventually you'll get one. But that just isn't golf. No matter how many times you play a par 3 it is ALWAYS different to the extent that practice just need never make perfect. How many thousands of times a pro will have played par 3s - and how many holes in ones have they had? And the problem is statistically each tee shot on a par three is an pretty much independent event in that what you did the pervious time doesn't matter. Every time might almost just as well be the first time.

Bizarre isn't it - I must have done this half a dozen times too. It's the same shot as a hole-in-one but all it's worth is an Eagle....

it is bizarre.. a few weeks ago, I holed one from about 85y. Nice high green, so a bit blind shot and had given up on the hole. PW and lo & behold went in. What a way to save PAR on the P5 after having hacked it out and then topped it. Golf's little mysteries..

I would only consider this close if you hit a 3w into the green :ears:

never made one yet. Ive had a few sit on or near the lip. heartbreaking.

then others that end up a foot or two past but roll past the hole like a putt.

ive holed out from the fairway from 130 yards for my first eagle at our par 5 2nd hole!

Joined a club for the first time 20 months ago and hit my first and only ace 9 months later. Perfect PW pitched 6 ft short and just released out and rolled into the hole. I've still got the ball actually.

About 5 years after taking the game up again, played for about 10 years on and off before that. It was a complete fluke based on how I was playing that day, and indeed play most of the time. Having said that the shot was pretty spot on, 7 iron 150 yards and rolled in.

I do feel a little guilty when there are much better golfers than me who have never had one, but hey ho. Don't expect to get another one as my game is not good enough for me to have many chances.

You could drive a double-decker between the hole and the pitch mark - and the QE2 between the hole and the ball. Of course the ball may have lipped out and ended up where it is - so in fact VERY close to a hole in one. But the picture can't tell us.

BTW - What is that 'mysterious' circle in on the green centred on the hole with radius double that of the hole?
