Theres a guy I work with who we talk golf now and again briefly who I suggested we get together and have a game which he reluctantly agreed to saying he hadnt played for 3 years and had little interest in the game nowdays. So I wondered what I had let myself in for with this "hacker",we played and me who practice's at the range and gets out once or twice a week on course and has been doing so for 20 years shoots 86, work matey who's lost interest and hadnt played for 3 years shoots 76 just 5 over par .
God given talent and they dont use it!! Yes I'm envious

There was/is a guy like that at Aldersey doesn't play very often or practice ever, but will just show up when he feels like it and knock it round in the mid-70s. It annoys me, partly as I've always worked to get better, had lessons and spent hours on the practice ground, but mostly because I think "if you could actually give a toss you could, I don't know, have made it and been one of the lucky few we see on the telly every week." As I said in another thread maybe satisfaction only comes from the struggle!

I bet both those referenced played as youngsters...the good bits get ingrained (like riding a bike) and, whilst the edge may go off chipping and putting, the fundamentals there will show through too.

Totally agree if these guys would apply themselves and use the obvious gift they have been given who knows how far they could take their game......

Friend of my brothers is like this was a really low handicapper as a youth, gave up because he couldn't be bothered to play everyweek and now plays once a year in a charity day we all attend and goes round in usually +2/3 using equipment he's borrowed from all and sundry.

Damn these people with talent.

Natural ability, same with all sports. You can practice 7days a wk but if you haven't got it you haven't got it.

Another thing with these guys is theres no constant changing of gear, they just use the stuff they have had for years and get on with it!

An ex-colleague of my ex's, who lived a few doors from us, was the first low-capper (6) I went around with. Dragged him out to play his old course for his first round in 7 months. He bogied the first, but went round the rest in level par!

Never looked if he was playing good shots and wasn't particularly happy with irons, but he got up and down brilliantly!

Natural sportsmen frustrate me! The oldest step-son was another, but I could normally bet him - and he had a habit of forgetting the gimee putt too!:D
