Hi everyone. I'm quite new to golf. I've picked up the mag a few times and noticed how much the forums get mentioned so thought it was time I joined.
So Hi!
As I say, I'm quite new to the sport as a veteran of pitch and put but now I'm hooked and determined to improve. I just wondered if anyone had any golden nuggets of advice for beginners. I've taken a few lessons and group lessons. My short game is ok but it's distance and consistency off the tee I lack.
I played Dunston hall in Norwich twice this weekend and hit 110 and 115, just so you have an idea of how poor I am at this stage.
So I just wondered what that one essential piece of advice was that served you guys so well when you were starting out?

Welcome to the forum fella!!!

Firstly, dont put yourself down so much, we all have to start somewhere and shooting 110 already, you're going to be breaking 100 very soon!

The advice I would give is to get lessons, but seeing as you already are, the advice I will give is have more lessons! :D

What sticks are you using at the moment?

I have a set of Taylormade RAC HTs and a Cobra Baffler 23 degree which is the biggest club I dare hit it with.
I have a nice Rossa Imola putter that I bought last week 2nd hand though.
Oh, and thanks for the welcome.
Beating 100 is my main target at the mo.

Hi Ravenson

Welcome to the forum.

Your doing the right thing having lessons make sure you practice between them 70% shot game 30% long game.when you have had a lesson always ask the pro to give you something to work on before your next one.

Always practice with a purpose dont go blasting away just for the sake of it.

The consistencey and length will get better.

This is now your hobby enjoy it.

Blimey, that's not very far!
<BIG WINK FOR HUMOUR>

Welcome to the forum :)

I am loving it. I've been fortunate enough to find a great course at Ramsdale park just outside of Nottingham. They're very welcoming and have a brilliantly maintained par 3 course that i've been on several times now. I haven't graduated to the full course yet but I will do soon I hope.

Sweet Mary Mother of Jesus....I hope you're fit and have hiking boots for when you play The Seeley!!!

The front 9 is all lovely & flat, and the back 9 is like playing on the north face of kilimanjaro....only a lot worse! lol

Cracking course though, but you need a buggy for the back 9.

I noticed that during my stints in the 19th. It looks quite a treck. Especially when you're zigzagging across the fairway too.

I've played the Seeley 4 times now, 3 times with a buggy and once walking and I swear i'll never walk it again!

Honestly I felt like I was dying by the 15th and couldnt carry on! lol

Hi fella, welcome to the forum !

When I first started I was shooting 105-110, but after a bit of practice and some more practice its come down to an average of 86-90 after 8 months of picking up golf bats for the first time.

There's great buys to be had off the likes of eBay and the likes, I got my putter and driver off eBay. Just beware of the large amount of fake gear people sell online.
