Great work Sherlock... Yes 18 is the first official one.
Will be on HDID over the next few days. The others were a 'playing' HC gave me to participate in his improver comps. So this year enrolled full on and handed my 3 cards. Last one went in on Fri and got the 18 on Sat evening, just in time for the Nike.

Would've been interesting if you'd not received your official h'cap before the Nike matchplay, I thought it was a required part of entry?

Played a guy who is having a purple patch. He was playing off 14. So got 4 shots. Had a miserable day and lost 4&2. Got back to the club house, and apparently had been cut by 3 shots due to his performance earlier this week. Of the 3 extra shots that I could have had.. I won one, lost one and conceded one.

.. Looks like the universe is conspiring against me. It would have been much easier not to disclose my cut, but I guess personal integrity at play. Sorry rant & sour grapes..

Let me get this right, he played you off 14 but his real handicap should of been 11? Then afterwards you worked out where you had the shots and thats it? Or had he been cut from 17 to 14?

If He played you off the wrong handicap, he should be either DQ or at least replay the match.

If my interpretation of your account is correct, you should be claiming the match. If he played well enough in a qualifier earlier in the week to lose 3 shots (which, surprise surprise, he didn't know about until after your match), he should have reduced his handicap before playing you and has played off too high a handicap.

Or, on reflection, he was chopped from 17 to 14.

Only learnt his new HC when we got back to the club house. :(

No, your h'cap is your responsibility. If you play a comp you have an obligation to adjust your h'cap down against SSS (you can't adjust it up). In this situation you oppo should have adjusted his h'cap down and therefore played of the wrong h'cap. You should claim the match

No, he was 14. On Tuesday, he shot 5 under, so he has been cut by 3. So his new HC is now 11 (starting today)

Well he should certainly be DQ then.

Interesting.. can he claim that he was also not aware of it till we got back or that we both agreed at our individual HC of 14 & 18 before tee-ing off.

Therefore the match is yours. Or you could offer to play the match again off his correct handicap. But I know which one he will learn best from.....Your match.

Also if you ever play in a comp and shoot well, you must calculate your own handicap if you play in any other comp having not received an official update.

You did the right thing in ensuring you had an upto date active handicap before commencing the game. Let him know you are claiming the match, inform the comp secretary and get ready for the 2nd round.

Well done

Wow, I have a Sunday nap and this topic takes another turn ;)

The match is yours my friend, he shot 3 under earlier in the week and KNEW he would be cut and as such he should have allowed for his minimum cut immediately. He then played you off an incorrect handicap and is suitable DQ'd.

The round/match is your to claim without playing again.

Well done

He came across as a decent guy, so giving him the benefit of doubt. However, raised this with the organizers, so lets see. He was aware he was due for a cut, but I suspect they hadnt calculated the cut till the Sat comps were over (that is the impression I got).

I must say, you learn something new everyday!!. Now over to the organisers..

PS: As an aside, he is out of the country over July & Aug, so he wasnt sure he would finish the next round either.

I'm sorry but that doesn't wash me, if he's playing off 14 he should be well aware of the rules and knew he would be cut and as such you could have played differently having more shots available to you, its a DQ, pure & simple and if he doesn't think he will be able to continue why enter knocking people out only then to retire, decent or not the blokes a [quote Smiffy) knob.

Claim the match

Exactly, ignorance of the rules is no excuse.

How can people get their hcp down to less than 18 and NOT know about cutting your own hcp if your score well?
Vkrup's opponent and 6inchcup as I commented on earlier...
