Match play is wonderful, whether you're giving or receiving strokes. It's the original form of play - mano a mano.
Is it a comp that can only be played on a Saturday or Sunday? Our KO competition terms are clear that you must be offering weekend dates, if you can’t play weekends you shouldn’t enter, so I think it unreasonable not make yourself available for any of them.

It is the responsibility of both players/teams to arrange a mutually convenient date for the playing of the round. At least three dates, including two weekend dates, within the time limit for the completion of that round should be offered as soon as possible after the start of the round. If both parties cannot agree on a date, then the match must take place at 10am on the deadline date. The player/team present on the appropriate tee at this time will be declared the winner and will progress to the next round.
Touché!
Out bandited in style.
I have a job and can play during the week from about 5, there’s enough light now. Much better playing a 2 ball match on a quiet course than on a rammed course at the weekend. You mean people with jobs?![]()
No such thing as a 5 day member at some clubs. If someone works every weekend then I would expect them to be 5 day members
So if someone works the week and a someone works the weekend someone needs compromise
Exactly this for me. I’d rather be a 2 ball matchplay on a weekday evening in a quiet course than a 2 ball stuck amongst 4 balls trudging round.I have a job and can play during the week from about 5, there’s enough light now. Fine, but surely you realise it's not a choice for some people? Many will be at the office until 5:30pm and have an hour+ commute to get home.I have a job and can play during the week from about 5, there’s enough light now. In that case, you should consider your availability before entering the competitions. I am changing jobs in a few weeks and my flexibility has changed, therefore I have not entered anything this year until I can understand how my hours will work.Fine, but surely you realise it's not a choice for some people? No, I still don't agree with the bold - if you can move things around to play at weekends it gives you at least 8 or 9 dates to choose from, it should be plenty. People who can't play at weekends are the ones causing a problem and who probably shouldn't be entering. In that case, you should consider your availability before entering the competitions. Sounds harsh, but it is true.

That's obviously fair for you to not enter if you don't even know which days you'll be working.![]()
I think that would severely limit the number of entrants wouldn't it? 'I couldn't enter the matchplay this year because the semi-final date is the same day as my sister's wedding so no point'. If you leave it in people's hands to arrange then they should always have a decent chance of getting it done.Probably not thinking straight today but why isn’t matchplay comps simply allocated to a selection of reserved tee times on predetermined dates/days for each round
Bit like the fa cup etc, round 3 ties will be played weekend of the Xth
All round dates are known before entering, so if you're on hols/working etc then its not for you
Then start time is the only thing to agree between opponents for the preferred day/date,
