Golf Random Irritations

I’m sure some of these KO irritations are copy and paste from last year (and the one before, and the one before that).
People do know that one of the signs of madness is doing the same thing time and time again and wondering why you get the same result. If you can’t stand the messing around when arranging fixtures, then don’t enter the competition.
And don’t get me started on the inevitable moans about having to give too many shots once the fixture is arranged.

Is it a comp that can only be played on a Saturday or Sunday?

You can play on any agreeable day. But you must offer 2 weekend dates, according to our rules.
It is the responsibility of both players/teams to arrange a mutually convenient date for the playing of the round. At least three dates, including two weekend dates, within the time limit for the completion of that round should be offered as soon as possible after the start of the round. If both parties cannot agree on a date, then the match must take place at 10am on the deadline date. The player/team present on the appropriate tee at this time will be declared the winner and will progress to the next round.

I have a job and can play during the week from about 5, there’s enough light now. Much better playing a 2 ball match on a quiet course than on a rammed course at the weekend.
Exactly this for me. I’d rather be a 2 ball matchplay on a weekday evening in a quiet course than a 2 ball stuck amongst 4 balls trudging round.

Fine, but surely you realise it's not a choice for some people? Many will be at the office until 5:30pm and have an hour+ commute to get home.
In that case, you should consider your availability before entering the competitions. I am changing jobs in a few weeks and my flexibility has changed, therefore I have not entered anything this year until I can understand how my hours will work.

Sounds harsh, but it is true.

No, I still don't agree with the bold - if you can move things around to play at weekends it gives you at least 8 or 9 dates to choose from, it should be plenty. People who can't play at weekends are the ones causing a problem and who probably shouldn't be entering.

That's obviously fair for you to not enter if you don't even know which days you'll be working. (y)

If someone only works weekends then what happens?
I still think if open to everyone then person drawn out first gives 3 dates of which one must be weekend and one must be weekday ( hopefully a date can be sorted before the need to do this).
That in my opinion is fair to everyone

A club local has 2 summer knockouts that is open to all, however the competition rules of 1 are you must be available for midweek and weekend matches and the other must only be played midweek.

If the comp rules say you must offer a weekend date then that’s the rules.

If someone can’t play any midweek, and one person can only do 1 weekend day then I’d expect the person who can’t play midweek to make themselves available for that day as they are the ones limiting availability.

Im lucky, I can play in the week and enjoy an after work match play. Others aren’t as fortunate, but if you are entering comps I’d say you need to be prepared to be flexible

Probably not thinking straight today but why isn’t matchplay comps simply allocated to a selection of reserved tee times on predetermined dates/days for each round

Bit like the fa cup etc, round 3 ties will be played weekend of the Xth
All round dates are known before entering, so if you're on hols/working etc then its not for you

Then start time is the only thing to agree between opponents for the preferred day/date,

I think that would severely limit the number of entrants wouldn't it? 'I couldn't enter the matchplay this year because the semi-final date is the same day as my sister's wedding so no point'. If you leave it in people's hands to arrange then they should always have a decent chance of getting it done.

What if people can’t make those days and times ,

I have never had too many issues

Just needs a bit of common sense and flexibility

I love match play but to arrange at my new club is a ball ache and for the first time since 2004, I’ve not entered any m/p knock outs.

The expectation to play weekdays seems to always hit in the early rounds, I’m not burning leave days for a 3hr round because an old duffer semi retired / retired still wants to play swindles at weekends.

But the perpetual hassles reporting in arranging ties is moaned about every single year (& I moaned about it when I entered them) & apparently the hassle is already stopping ppl entering

So is the hassle really not that bad/widespread that pre-set dates wouldn’t be a benefit

If there was a medal or even club champs when you have a wedding to go to you’d miss that comp anyway (I’ll wager your sister didn’t consider club champs when setting the date) ;)
Anyway tees times could/would be spread Fri, Sat & Sun, so a one day wedding doesn't rule out unless its long distance
