Golf Random Irritations

I was checking the club comps online last night and found a slot in a betterball. There were only three players, so I put my name in to make up the second pairing. Minutes later I got a message to say the pairings had changed. One bloke deleted his playing partner and moved the guy I was with into his pairing, leaving me stranded on my own. Not impressed at all.
Whilst I can understand your frustration, did you contact them first? Manners work 2 ways and it should be courtesy to ask if they mind you joining, especially in a betterball game.

Is this the new place?
If so have a look at the thread about making a good first impression, that should be of some assistance 😂.
Did you check with them if they minded you putting your name down?

Maybe you‘re „unwanted“ ? 🤣

Maybe they were in the process of reorganising as one guy was pulling out

If it's betterball and there are only 3 names down then surely a 4th would be welcome? The game is played in pairs after all.

Edit: Paul has just beaten me to it

Sounds tough.
Would love to visit Shetland and Orkney.
I’d take you round our course if you ever venture up this way. 👍

Laim from Golfmates said it’s his favorite course in the world, he’s deluded😂 the course is tough but I would say we’ve got views that’s as good if not better than anywhere in the UK.

Maybe the 3rd was putting a card in for handicap or been out injured and only playing 9.
Could be a lot of reasons.
I would always check first, even just with the pro to see if anyone else had asked or put my name in a free slot and see if anyone joined me

Perhaps they were trying to sort a 4th themselves.
Not sure I’m a fan of these free for all booking systems.
I've been at clubs with booking systems for years now. If there is a space, you know it might be filled. If you are playing 4bbb and only 3 names are up, you would expect or hope someone would fill it.

Any space, you don't own it.

Then they shouldn’t be taking up a slot in a Comp.

Why would he contact them first? Online booking system and they are a 3 people in need of a 4th.
Are they in need of a 4th? They might have had a couple of options and were waiting to see which one was available, or a number of other reasons. Assuming they need someone and just putting your name in is a bit rude imo.

Different scenario if it is a singles competition.

Take your name off and play at another time, I wouldn’t go along as a single expected to mark their card after their bad behaviour.

Most probable scenario is that 4 guys that know each other booked the 4 slots. One dropped out leaving a space. Ol’ Crazyhorse booked on to it and a second of them dropped out. Leaving one of the guys with a stranger, so logically they moved him across with someone he knows.

I don’t think it’s more complex or conspiratorial than that.

Absolutely no different in any scenario!

What if he’d came across 3 spaces with 3 x 3 Balls, message them all and let them pick, then have all 3 say yes and say no thanks to 2?

People should only put their name down when they expect to play in a comp, yes you can have last minute changes, but to say somebody using the system correctly is rude is just laughable imo.
