If it’s raining when I’m already out on the course no problem. It it’s a comp round agin no drama I quite enjoy that, but a social round with the wife who has no waterproofs then sod thatGet the brolly up, you soft sod![]()
Yes but not by you.Jesus Christ, some patronising sods on here sometimes.
Regardless of where I fill in the card, it still needs filling in, even if I didn’t I’d still need to know how many shots I get before I start the round when playing in a stableford. So yes, we can all do our research whilst sat on the bog at home, or in bed the night before, but the fact remains that the calculation still needs to be done.

Appreciate that but does anyone go into a stableford comp not knowing what shots they get? I don’t know anyone else who goes in blind, holing out for no points, or ‘I’ve got this putt for a point’.I think you are missing the points raised. A players handicap does not have to be on the card, a player is only responsible for their gross score on the card it is the committees responsibility to work out the stableford points.
When you say you need to know how many shots for stableford it is for your own benefit - get it wrong and it does not matter for a comp result.
No they don’t as the Committee have to provide that information for you.Appreciate that but does anyone go into a stableford comp not knowing what shots they get? I don’t know anyone else who goes in blind, holing out for no points, or ‘I’ve got this putt for a point’.
Anyway, I think this has been done to death, we’re ok to have different opinions and different methods.
Depends.Yes but not by you.
You do realise that this ‘new system’ will, in a lot of instances, probably mean that higher handicappers will actually receive more shots in competitions than they do currently? All This talk about trying to calculate one’s handicap is making me chuckle.
Why?
Coz am sat here perusing the net and Ave just read that Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have now adopted a new WHS handicapping system after a trial In which clubs were allowed to alter a persons handicap.
However England golf have decided against doing that.
Why? Quote.
They told counties: “After careful consideration and consultation, including feedback from counties, committees, club staff and volunteers, we have decided to postpone any adoption of changes to Playing Handicap Allowances until 2028, in line with the wider WHS review cycle.
Now here’s a thought. Why not actually ask golfers like they did in the original trial in Ireland.
Quote.
They concluded the trial had seen “broadly positive impacts”. They revealed there was a “strong sentiment among both golf club administrators and golfers themselves that handicapping currently favours higher-handicapped players”.
Now don’t get me wrong. My thoughts on the WHS are well known and for those that don’t know. It’s rammel.
Obviously England golf don’t read the GM Forum. Otherwise they would
Know the split on WHS is only matched by the split in America with the republicans and Democrats.
We have had it hammered down our throats about how brilliant WHS Is and yet now even Countries cannot agree how to run the WHS.
it’s a complete and utter mess.
Good luck guys in sorting out your handicaps
Happy Easter everyone.
I will Be honest I am Not sure of the ramifications. And as you say amYou do realise that this ‘new system’ will, in a lot of instances, probably mean that higher handicappers will actually receive more shots in competitions than they do currently?
Have to say that I played a 'welcome' round today - myself and a lady member welcoming a married couple new to the club. The 'newbies' put in cards; us 'oldies' didn't bother. I scored him - but as this was just a score for handicap purposes I knew that his stableford points were an irrelevance for that - I just checked that he holed out and I recorded his gross score on every hole. As it happens he was careless on just one putt - tapping in back of club from a foot - it went in for a 7 - so obviously he knew he'd score zero points hole it or not. At end I just signed his gross score - and that was all that was on the card. I'm not even very sure what his handicap was - it was on the card but I took no notice of it.Appreciate that but does anyone go into a stableford comp not knowing what shots they get? I’ve read this a couple of times and still find it vague and a bit odd.
When you say for certain groups. Who are the certain groups and who decides they should pay more than other visitors. Why should some visitors get a cheaper rate than others for playing the same course.
Or do you mean putting in a tiered system of charges for peak and off peak times as that would make sense. You can’t simply just double or treble a fee and expect it’s going to cause an upturn in your club margins and make it better for members. You’re highly more likely going to impact the members harder when people see such a hike in green fee price they’ll simply go else where so you end up worse off. I’ve seen it happen many times so unless you’re increasing what they get for that money and making it worth the hike your point of view is”someone has to pay “ will simply become a greater burden on the members.
I will be honest, I never have a clue how many points I have on a card. And it costs me I know. The beauty of our fuddle is we have a front nine back nine and overall winner. Tuesday 15 points on the front. Back nine 2 points on the 10th and hit a bad drive on a dog leg. The safe shot was just knock it to the. Corner and 120 to the pin. But I saw a gap and let’s just say by ball is now buried somewhere. All for the sake of an extra 30 yards. I then shot 17 points on the last 7 holes.Have to say that I played a 'welcome' round today - myself and a lady member welcoming a married couple new to the club. In a stableford comp I might keep track of my points - but in truth I tend to ignore them (tell my marker to not tell me at any point) until the end - I can easily get fed up knowing I'm scoring zeros or ones on successive hole. I know - but I'd rather ignore the fact and just get on with the next hole.
Depends.
I know what the R of G say, and you are right that the rest is the committee’s responsibility.
But our Club seniors competition has got finicky, and they will disqualify you if you don’t write on the card your playing index, the Course index and your playing handicap.
Those three things have to be on there when card submitted.
I’m waiting for a winning card to be disqualified for this and then the kickback to the committee telling them that the disqualification is out of order. Which it is.
It will be interesting.

I did that once at my old club.......what made it more embarassing was that the scores were shown on a live TV screen above the bar! I was a new member at the time but suffice to say, I never did it again!!!!That one person who still continues to enter their Stableford points into the gross score on the PSI
Current leader has 75 points with 6 hole in ones - the one on rbe par 5 is impressive
