Golf Random Irritations

Getting told in the clubhouse by the group that was behind you that you should think about speeding up when you know you weren't the slow one in the group 😒

All players in the group should take responsibility for slow play. If you didn’t try and get the slow player to speed up, then you are part of the problem.

I hear you. The thing is, we weren't actually that slow either, more the group in front were quick. I saw where the group behind were and they were nowhere near as close behind as they claimed. And the guy that complained (I mean, he was light-hearted about it, no-one was angry) is hardly a quick player either! Just got my back up a little because I was the only one in the group that stuck around for a drink afterwards so I felt like I was getting the blame personally

(not aiming at you here) Isnt this how many see it, keep in front of those behind rather than keeping up with the group in front.

It might well be. I think there were a few factors today. In my group were two people who are good golfers but... we'll call them "deliberate". One of them was putting out everything due to putting a card in, but it was 4BBB so other groups might have just been picking up to speed up (eg the group in front/behind). My pair certainly did.

There is a certain point at our course where things ALWAYS bunch up (12/13/14), which is where one of the more deliberate golfers actually said, we should try and speed up, but they weren't actually that close behind (more than one shot, easily)

I think our round was about 4h5, 4h10, something like that. Trouble is, at our club we are spoiled with rounds normally about 3h40.... but they are typically in 3-balls!

It was a pretty light-hearted comment but I felt a bit aggrieved as I'm always conscious to try and move around the course as quickly as possible and try and get ready when others are hitting, but I was on the end of the comment. I made a mistake earlier, there were two of us who stopped for a drink, but I don't think the comment-maker knew the other guy well enough to say anything to him.

Good job it was nice weather out!!

Why oh why do golf clubs not put their membership fees on their website when they are a club that you can apply to join?

"Fill in the form and a member of our team will be in touch to talk through the membership benefits..."

So does anyone know what the current bog standard 7 day full membership is for Frilford Heath please?

Close to around £3.5k plus levys and fees taking it to around £4K

Thanks 👍

So in "my friend's" case it would have wasted everyone's time filling out the form, getting a phone call, having a chat and eventually finding out it was way over budget.
Seems a silly way of doing things.

Because then they don’t have to keep updating the website. Most golf clubs are run by a small team with low expertise in website management. Golf clubs have some of the worst websites I’ve ever seen.

They would need to update it once a year, hardly an onerous task.

But agree that the average club website is rubbish, mine included (but we do publish the membership fees  )

It shouldn’t take much to figure out the levels of fees at certain clubs

Most don’t publish them to save having to update every year

Use a phone......to speak to someone . If I have to do that, I'm moving onto the next club :ROFLMAO:. It's 2025.

I know a phone is so last year

But this is golf , and most clubs ( members clubs ) are still a little behind in terms of technology- some still phone up for a tee time and some still write on a bit of paper on a sheet on the wall

I find it difficult to accept membership prices are missing due to time pressures of carrying out annual/seasonal edit/update. Are there other businesses/membership clubs where folks would accept that level of unmaintained websites

I think there must be other motives at work

Also, as said earlier, there’s more than a few golf websites I've seen that represent the most homemade botch jobs and its staggering to think there could be hundreds of thousands of pounds running through the same fingers

If a club isn’t “actively” looking for membership then I guess there will be little need to market membership

If a club needs members and green fees etc then it’s prob all over the website

All depends on the club that someone is looking at
