Golf Random Irritations

Ah that's a fair point - I had that issue a couple of weeks back. Down to baselayer + polo and you can't go any further. I guess, if in doubt, forgo the baselayer and add a gilet or something. :)
I have the UA under layers and find them stretchy enough to take off from under my t shirt

Playing tomorrow and still not sure how many layers to wear as the weather forecast seems to be all over the place at the moment. Will probably end up with too many on and end up lugging round a bagful of discarded tops 🥵
This is what happens when people start messing around with shorts before May....no good ever came from wearing shorts in the UK in March....

Can see why you did it - I’m guessing there is no way to help move him along

I wish,
I've been in 4balls with him twice before and even seen his FC go as far as to quit mid round
No point putting myself into that position for my one game this weekend so I've sorted a social round for Sunday instead

But I'll miss the comp vibe

Shame when someone can ruin enjoyment of a round of golf like that - there are plenty around who don’t care that their pace of play affects others

Dam humidity
Sole has come away from one of my golf shoes, the glue's just disintegrated, and there's loads of wear left in them too

(I'll try a repair but by past attempts at this kind of thing it never works)

Winter mats for me. Top of the list. Hate the things, genuinely do not go out on the course during winter because of them. I don’t mind and actually quite enjoy spending those months on the range but sometimes do get a bit frustrated, especially days like yesterday for example when the place is bone dry and the weather is great. Or when the fees come in and you know you’re paying only really for maybe 7/8 month of the 12.

I completely understand why they’re needed and they’re great for clubs/greenkeepers come say April and the turf hasn’t been touched in months but surely giving guys the option is a better approach?
I’d still say a lot would choose mats, especially short game wise I know lots actually love them (probably damaging their short game come start of the season but that’s another argument).
But at least give guys the option and it then both limits the course taking a beating but also let’s folk who want to get a proper hit during the winter.

Even with winter tees being forward a lot of the time then the landing and hitting spots are all different from the normal areas on a full course so to speak.

Just feels like back in the days when mats weren’t a thing, I can’t really remember courses being brutal because of it, then almost over night every club in the country had the mats rule. Even taking into the rough or semi should be an option at more places.

I hate playing off a mat, but am happy when we have the option to move the ball to the semi rough and play from there. That was the case at ours for most of the winter, but we did have a spell of a couple of weeks where you had to use a mat in the semi as well, that was horrible.

Thankfully fairway protection was dropped earlier this week, so can put the mat away until next winter.

A lot of the second bit is normally done by the Pro as a opposed to the club itself

Health of the game right now is very good though , plenty of clubs are healthy

It’s always worth remembering a lot of the clubs are members run , volunteers etc so not everything will suit everyone and it will be what suits the clubs

Most clubs now have very good websites - it’s more a minority now that will have websites that aren’t done by either IG or Golfworking etc

There are also a few clubs who don’t bother with a website at all !

New Zealand GC in Addleston ( they have a website now) is basically just a nice photo and a contact us page
