Played foursomes once a year in OZ for the Foursomes Club Champs. so was not much of a fan, until I went and lived in England.

Came to love it, I liked the pressure mostly of trying to not let your partner down, also at Winter time it was the quickest way round the course, foursomes match play was great.

Now back in OZ and only play once a year if that.

Our local scratch league (8 division, 6 teams per division) is foursomes. As many of the matches (5 pairs per side) start at 5.30 it would be difficult to get round at the beginning and end of the season. Great format for matchplay, a real team game.

We play for the county scratch league ( we managed to win it two years ago for the first time ) - it works during the cold months getting the matches done

It’s only half a game though.
And I have been places I didn’t know existed on my course😂

I’m playing a green some next week at least you drive on all holes.
But as I said “ if I don’t play the comp I can’t get a tee times “ 😳

I quite enjoy foursomes nowadays. It's a different kind of pressure when you don't want to let your teammate down, rather than just yourself. I also enjoy the teamwork element when you talk shots through with your partner, often you'll end up hitting a better shot than you would've done on your own. Sort of like having a caddie I guess, but I've never played with an actual caddie.

I played for Filton in that league for a good few years and through it grew to love scratch foursomes. And it’s additionally tough knowing your match is one of only five so really matters. Fortunately my best mate was also a member and my foursomes partner, so we played together in the team. We were very forgiving of each other…so important. Even though our handicaps were 6 our foursomes play was very solid and complementary so we could compete against lower handicap pairs.

Once playing in a league match at Tracy Park (sadly now closed) with a partner who wasn’t my usual one…we were the last match in a battle to stay up. We were 3up with four to play and my partner got the wobbles…so much so that we lost three in a row. On the 18th, with matches at 2-2, I hit our tee shot well down the middle - my partner then fired our approach way over the back of the green. We couldn’t get up and down to our opponents 4. We lost the hole; the match, and we were relegated. Tough.

I played the Cooden Beach Bowl for a few years and was lucky enough to win that with my partner, also played in the Hunstanton foursome Spring event, we lost to eventual winners in the Semi-Final, a very good pair of County players.

Went on to win the 3rd V 4th down the last, a minor consolation.

I always say to my partner to never say SORRY, wish I had said that to the wife when we played, usually if she hit it into the trees I would say something stupid, 'why did you do that'

Hence we do not play mixed golf anymore.

Just had a good driving range session, managed to reign in the slice by closing my stance slightly and the swing thought of trying to hit a topspin tennis forehand. Striking irons nice and straight as well. Why is it an irritation? Because I know full well all I've done is given myself hope again, which will be in pieces by the 5th tee on Sunday. 😑
