When you're practicing your swing indoors and the wall suddenly decides to get closer and dents itself on your club

If I won the lottery I would gladly treat my golfing mates to a few all inclusive days in Scotland playing the best courses that we could get tee times for.

If we're talking tens of millions id be taking my mates to the masters for the next 30+ years every year. :ROFLMAO:

This. I'd make three phone calls, the first to the bank to check the money was definitely in my account, the second would be to one of those luxury tour operators organising a trip to whatever top US courses I could get on, the third would be a Teams call to all the lads telling them to get their holidays in order or take unpaid leave - about 4 weeks should do it.

Better shoot 200 to get my money's worth. 😛

When I first started playing back in 1986 I was in the navy and living on the camp. ⚓️ The cabin had a ceiling high enough to swing a club properly. Trying to hit one of those practice balls with the holes in, I managed to take a massive divot out of the carpet.🤣 Glued it back down with loads of Bostick. 🤪

I don’t care how good a course is supposed to be but that Sunningdale price is just ridiculous. They obviously don’t want riff raff digging up their courses.

Sunningdale is close enough to London to host corporate events. When I played there, I was invited by a large investment bank (I wish I still did that job 😀), £300 is drop in the ocean, most people paying green fees are charging it to expenses.

They have two courses so they are always able to meet member demand for tee times and offer plenty of slots. It’s not really about being greedy, but using pricing to manage demand and subsidise subscriptions.

Irritating but friendly irritated.

A bloke of my age fairly recently in the last couple of years taken up golf. I am his mentor but we don’t get out as much as we need to (for a variety of good reasons). Speaking with him earlier today in the club car park he’s telling me he needs to get his handicap down from 31 to 28 to be able to move from academy membership to full membership. Fine… aaaand? …he goes on to tell me he’s going to do this by learning to draw the ball as he gets into trouble with his natural slice…🙄

I didn‘t ask him where he got that idea from - though he did say the academy pro told him to not bother about it, just aim to control his slice into a fade. Well that‘s something…👍

Me? I just said that I bet we can knock 5 shots off his 31 through improved course management and nothing else. We”ll see. Must get out with him soon. Learn to Draw? Really…the ideas some newbies have 🤷‍♂️🫣

A lady member organised a "fun" comp yesterday. The format was unfamiliar. All four drive and the pair on left and right play together in a 4 ball better ball and the winners individually get a point, no points for halves. With the switching of partners and the large element of luck involved it didn't float my boat. Not helped by some self serving arguments about the left/right team locations. Never again.

When I first took up the game, I booked a course of group lessons. Second lesson, the pro says "I'm going to show you how to hit a draw and a fade"' and proceeded to spend 10 mins doing exactly that. Nice to watch, but a complete waste of time as most of us were lucky if we could just hit the ball.

American golf are finally putting on a comp for the gold members this weekend and giving out vouchers for prizes.

The irritation is that today they are solid tining the greens

Hurt my knee at the gym a week ago, today's the first day it's felt ok.

Decided to give the range a try as am down to play tomorrow. I've got a booklet of vouchers for 50 balls at a time. Gave one to the lad in the shop who gave me a token. When I got to the machine, I found he had given me a token for 100, not 50. Any other time, I'd be chuffed at that, but this is not the best of days for that to happen. Anyway in for a penny etc.

So, hit ball after ball after ball with no ill effects. I'm thinking "great, I'm sorted". Get to the last half dozen balls, knee gives way, lots of pain. Hopefully not back to square one, but gutted nevertheless.

Some might call that karma.

Getting old and losing swing speed. I was at the Titleist fitting centre yesterday getting fitted for new irons and a driver. Driver swing speed has dropped to 95 mph since I was fitted for my 910 in 2012.

Black Friday sales.

Seed golf have had their stand bag for £159 up until their black friday sale. Now it is £179 in their amazing limited offer sale.

Shame as I was tempted to grab it if it came down to around £130

Bought a side saddle putter recently, but it came with no lower grip....they claimed you had more touch by grabbing the shaft. Well poop on that....played a couple of times with it Wed/Thurs and ordered a new Winn split grip. Unfortunately, I just eyeballed the grip before trying to put it on. I put two layers of tape lower down....grip was just rattling around it was so loose......and then spent a while with a hair dryer to get the tape dry again. So....as usual after one of my disasters....I measured things like an intelligent person should have done in the first place. Bottom grip took 5 layers to get a reasonably snug fit. Top was fine with 2 layers. I might just try to get out in the morning with the rollup group....although it could be a frosty start.

I can’t believe that folks fall for this black Friday codswallop.
