As mentioned in Played Today thread - just absolutely fed up of seemingly playing good golf for 11 or 12 holes but just frittering away shots on the other holes like confetti. Can't even pinpoint anything to work on its just one thing after another. Infuriating.

Bought a new Ping G430 max 3 wood and put my old 410 up for sale. When cleaning the club before sale I thought I need to alter the setting on my 430 to match my 410 and start from there. The guy came over from Stockport to Mansfield for it and was at the door at 8.10 Thursday morning. I never got round to matching them up. And can I eck as like remember what it was set at. Need to get to the range early Tuesday morning and have a tinker.

I get that using their free app needs to give them a bit of leeway to email you about stuff... But when you never use it, delete it and you unsubscribe from their mailing list (twice) and they continue to email you, they just seem like a bunch of amateur hacks

Grass left too deep just off the fairway. I get rough, but everywhere but fairway being 3" deep equals too much time wasted looking for balls and a stilted round.
We received an email off the head greenkeeper last week. In it, he explained how it was growing season and that his staff were working flat out to try to keep on top of the grass, but without much success when it comes to the semi rough.
His only hope lay in the fact that mother nature will take care of it as the early growing season is almost over.

And with the wet weather we have had and now a little warmth it is also really “juicy”, not that wispy stuff. At ours 17 and 18 currently are great examples of it, miss the fairway by a foot and you are taking 2 minutes to find the ball.

I do understand that but I was chatting with my pp, and those from the other group yesterday, and none of our courses had the same problem. Maybe courses with this issue need to go lower earlier, allowing for this surge, which presumably happens each year 🤷‍♂️. From our perspective, it took a good deal of the fun out of the round.

Yeah our rough was the same at the weekend. I guess the combination of warmer weather but still loads of rain is what did it. I'd often take hybrid from the rough at ours but this time I was having to hit 7 or 8 iron just to get it out and advance it a decent way.

Exactly same with us. Even the first cut is lush and dense. Head Greenie explained to me some weeks ago, as I could see the way the rough was going, that as much as he might try and keep it down - the more he cuts it the stronger and more vigorous the growth. Besides...he said...where am I meant to put all this cut grass - do I just leave it lying where it's cut for balls to run under and to create a nice decomposing fertiliser for the growing grass.

I'm taking no more than an 9i from the 1st cut most of the time at the moment, and speaking with our Head Pro on Sunday - he's often struggling to smash the ball more than 100yds out of the 1st cut at the moment so he tells anyone who'll listen to not bother trying to get any distance out of it; just get it back onto the fairway.

Noticed a lot of NRs in Saturday's boards comp - almost all of which, I'm guessing, would have been for lost balls in the first cut or just going into the deeper stuff when a provisional wouldn't have been deemed necessary.

It'd also be irritating to point out this happens (& is complained about) every year... however the players never seem to learn to adapt their play in these conditions :p :sneaky:
Why would golfer even think about changing their game? Golfers like to blame everyone else for their bad scores and if the professional green keepers can't keep a couple of acres of grass with loads of people walking on it and taking chunks out with metal implement in as good condition as their small lawn which no-one walks on, then they are fair game to get the blame.

Then again, maybe golfers being irritated by this don't normally play at courses with this issue and so are not faced with it year in year out. Maybe they are also not pro standard and just want a fun round without resorting to 9 iron all the way around? We are not talking about wild lashes and balls sprayed everywhere. The two recent examples I've had are issues just off the fairway and it massively slows the round for all concerned. 😝😜

Yep. Just as the fairways are in the nicest condition we ever see them, our light rough is ankle deep and the heavy rough up to your knees.
Clover growing on the greens is a major irritation too.

Having not played my course for a week or so I was massively caught out the other night. Hit two drives that, granted, weren't on the fairways but landed where the first cut normally is and they were never to be seen again as the grass was literally 12 inch deep and incredibly lush.

I'm in a whatsapp group with the head green keeper and he said that they're a mower down until the new one gets delivered and the growth has just exploded over the last couple of week - they're struggling to keep on top of it all so are focusing on fairways and greens.

I don't actually mind the rough tbf - I think our course should have more of it. And a few in the aforementioned group agreed.

Now I know its there I'll just have to make sure I avoid it!

I find it amazing that GK’s are still able to present courses so well at peak load times when there’s maybe only half a dozen of them (even if that means they've had to let the rough miss a cut or two) (y)

Perfect tee shots nestling in divots. Seem to suddenly be loads of unreplaced gouges out of my course - had two of these in the first five holes yesterday. Only upside is my improved mental game - that would once have had me stomping around, flapping, deep sighs etc but I just got on with it yesterday.
Happened to me on Saturday, but luckily it was the last weekend of preferred lies since they extended it! I was very grateful for that.

Jon Rahm and his robotic media image

The media going on and on about Tony Finau being such a family man - just really irritates me. He seems like a nice bloke, but in all honestly, I don't care that he's got 5 Children and a Wife. Sorry.
