I've been standing on the 17th tee having had 76 blows for the previous 16 holes and then taken a further 15 on the last two holes!! Guess I need to stop counting my shots so that I don't feel so much pressure in the latter stages of a game. :(

Del, it will come.

I know most people say to not count your score so you're not totally sure of how you're doing, but I'm a believer in learning to handle the pressure rather than trying to avoid it.

You need to find a method of forgetting about it while you play your shots. If you're thinking about how big a cut you'll get you're NOT thinking about your shot.
Just think about the shot in front of you and attach no more or less importance to it than any other shot in the round.

I think that may help as by keeping adding up as you go you start thinking ahead (2 x 4 gives me 84) and then stopping thinking about the shot at hand and failing to break 90. Keep trying and think one shot at a time you will get there.

my friend played his first round last night with his handicap. he was given 25! he said it allowed him to think about only one hole at a time rather than thinking about his shot total. it lets him know where he stands.

Del, my medal rounds look nothing like my practice rounds and it's doing my box in. I seem to be losing my tempo which is really affecting ball striking and confidence.

Where does the 15 come from, I would guess it's just erractic shots, then instead of taking the punishment trying to get out of trouble without success. Maybe next time your on for a good score, take a hybrid, iron off the tee to ensure the ball is in play, ok you may struggle to make par, but even taking double bogey twice would knock off a few shots

Gifford is a nice tight wee course, don' count your score. Enjoy your game. It will come. I have only play Haddington once cant really remember it. Which course are you having a problem with.

I think you need to drink more fluid, and eat stuff to keep your energy levels up.

You think it's something as simple as that? I am bad for not taking nearly enough fluid on board when I'm playing and I usually have a blinding headache later in the day. Will give this a go for the May Medal on Sunday and see how I go.

Cheers.

Don't chase it Del, you will just get too tense and that will be so destructive. Let it come gradually. Play well, but play conservatively. Remember it's a score you're trying to build over the full 18 holes. Take your time, use your strokes well and it will come.
