Don’t know if it has been noticed but Missis T likes to travel, 😉. Predominately we like culture. However holidays promoting Dubai are be o ing more and more frequent. Why? What is the attraction. Concrete cities are not my idea of a good time so what am I really missing. Can anyone sell it to me, Missis T.

Are you a tacky z list celeb or an influencer? If no, don’t bother with Dubai.

There's no real history, golf and booze are expensive.
I'd recommend anyone visit for a few days if they're passing that way, massive malls, some nice beaches, some of the highest buildings in the world so all worth seeing, food from all over the world.
You could like it or not, tough to say really.

If you like ostentatious displays of grotesque wealth and traipsing around malls then you’ll feel at home…I visited once - a cousin lived there - but would struggle to return. Not to my taste at all.

We were talking about this last night and the decision was to maybe pass through for a few nights, but it won’t be a sole destination for us.

I have been a few times, mainly in the 90's and early 2000's for work. We went on holiday there a couple of years ago for a sun and golf week.

One of the most soulless places I have ever been to. No one and nothing is 'local', we had to walk through a massive mall (we stayed on the Palm) to get to the monorail - you could have been in the UK with a Waitrose and an M&S and all normal international brands. The only shop we went into was an Ecco one where the shoes I tried on looked a bit expensive - I googled them. they were 50% more than the RRP in the UK, I bought them online for the usual 25% below the UK RRP.
Hotel (Fairmont) was nice but hideously expensive, a beer or a wine was £12 in Happy Hour and water with your meal was around £15. High rises buildings are impressive but that is very short lived.
Golf was good but again way over priced.
In summary wouldn't dream of going back.
On the other hand, just come back from Oman, beautifully clean, no high rises, lots of history, great local food. A wonderful place and we'll be back - golf (they've only got three courses) was excellent, cheap and empty. Al Mouj (world Top 100) there is one of the best courses I have played and way less than half the price of Dubai course.

Having lived there briefly I'd recommend it. Great place and don't listen to the negative views.

Yes there's some absolute idiots out there but a lot less than most tourist hotspots.

Early morning golf on a Friday followed by a bottomless brunch are the stand out memories.

Most tourists don't take the trouble to venture to the old part of Dubai. Good museum and plenty of history there but it is a modern city and that's why people go there. For 4/5 nights you can't find a better place in the winter.

100% this, I’ve been 8 times in the last 15 years, service is second to none, food exceptional and we always get the lounge included with our room, we stay at Jumeriah Al Naseem.
You can eat in any Jumeriah restaurant, just jump in a golf cart or a wee trip on a boat to take you there.

Can you check if your plane will take off from a standard runway, or one of those special ones that are only as long as the plane
