So don't dress 'golfer' - try and dress tidy. I have to wear white socks with shorts and I cannot wear 'sports' type shoes (so it's 'normal' shoes) at my club - probably the case for any traditional members club. My wife detests this look and thinks it looks awful. I'm never allowed to dress like that normally - she would almost refuse to be seen out with me and would keep her distance if we had to go into town.
Quite right, what sort of idiot would consider wearing sports type shoes to participate in a sport?
I actually find it quite funny the way clubs make themselves sound slightly ridiculous in their dress code wordings at times. MikeH invited a forumer to a round at his course earlier in the week, being nosy I had a look at the website. Not to decry Mike's club, I'm sure it is a very nice place to be and full of wonderful members; however, the dress code forbade the wearing of 'business' socks with shorts, business socks!
I can't find my clubs dress code. It isn't on our website and it's not in my fixture diary/ rule book. Despite this everyone from members to visitors seem to dress appropriately. You would think it would be looking like the set of Mad Max 2 by now.
