Desperation

Talking to the owner of my club the other day, he was telling me that far from trying to attract new members he was thinking about starting a waiting list. (current membership around the 600 mark) Full membership is £480pa and there is no joining fee. I think some clubs are struggling simply because they are over priced.

Which club are you at? I live in the area and am possibly looking at a change and £480 is a bargain.

Just had a look at the site because I'm around there too.

Do you get fed up of all the short par 4's or is there more to them than that?

Well no, at least not for now, I've only been playing for 18 months and only been a member since early sept, so the course is more than challenging enough for me. However, I can see that better players might find the course too easy.

Sorry, I didn't necessarily mean that it wasn't a challenge, just that it might be a bit same-y.

If the holes differ and you have to place your tee shot with an iron on some then short holes can be as difficult to score on as long holes.

If however, you can bash driver off every tee without worrying too much about where it finishes then it might get a bit boring.

In the few courses I've played, some of my favourite holes are short holes, because they can have more hazards and big risk and reward values without being unfair like a 450yd par 4 would be if it had the same features.

Basher, is this the 100 points for £295?

A club near me ''Reigate Hill'' has a similar deal, £295 for 295 points, and you get charged points per round. I think its 15 points midweek and 25 points at the weekend.
You dont have to use your points by a certain time they just roll-over to the next year. And you can top it up, a bit like a mobil phone.

Its a good deal for the occasional golfer, or for someone who is thinking of joining a club for the first time. I think there yearly membership is about £950.

Oh I see what you mean, The course is quite hilly and there are plenty of hazards to punish wayward drives in the form of trees, bunkers and thick cabbage, even the shortest par 3 has two ponds between tee and flag, over-hit and yor're in the hedge/woods so I would'nt say it was a boring course.
