Courses with 'silly' holes

Its a pathetic opening hole. A 5 iron off the tee hoping to avoid the plethora of divots in the obvious landing area. Factor in the burn and a stupid right angle dog leg plus if you get a firm bounce you go right through the fairway into more trees. As an opening hole its one of the worst that I have ever witnessed.

That diagram also doesn't show how close the trees are to the fairway or the tee for that matter nor does it show how mature the trees are on the left of the fairway now.

Terrible terrible hole in my opinion.

Anyone played Painswick (in the Cotswolds). A brillant but crazy little track perched high on the hills on common land - but you've got to get up there first. And so the first four holes are mountain goat stuff - and then you reach the par 3 fifth. All of 114yds off the whites; not far you think until you stand on the tee and you look way up the hill in front of you and realise the green is up there somewhere - completely out of site. So here is the view from above and behind the green - yes - you are seeing the tops of very tall trees that are down by the tee.

I
f you are in the vicinity you just must play it - just for the experience - a bit like playing Shiskine in Arran. Describing these little courses as memorable is a bit of an understatement.

I played here today for the first time, despite it being one of my closest. A real experience and I agree with the above that it should be tried out if you're in the area. After the first 3 holes (8, 8, 7) I was actually considering jacking it in, something that I've never done before. But then the game picked up and resulted in a thoroughly enjoyable, but tiring, day. I pared the ominous hole 5, along with a couple of others and ended with 32 pts, 100 strokes, 5 lost balls.

Pro's - A real challenge, lovely views, a good workout
Cons - Common land, poor greens, a good workout

Not usually one to post (more of a viewer) but Horton Park in Epsom's 10th is a very tricky island green par 3, 180 (or something off the whites). They've got the pro playing it on their site. This hole can get more than a little 'silly' sometimes!

That hole is a bloody joke. Most of the members lay up and chip over. If they shortened it to 120 yards, it would be a superb signature hole that everyone had a chance on. But the owner of that place is a complete and utter moron.

I cant think what hole this is, is it the tee that sits up high with the 100 odd yard drop to a fairway. I was drunk most of the way round the twice iv played it.

Not sure what hole it is either but sounds like you've got the right one. Par five with an almost 90 degree dogleg right just a short or mid iron from the tee. Signs up saying you can't cut the dogleg (would mean driving over another green).

Don't think im thinking of same hole, may be thinking of one on the lyndoch. Sheer drop then the fairway plays long to the left. wish the website had hole-by-hole pictures.

Edit: Had a look, i reckon im thinking of the 14th par 5 on the lyndoch, stroke index one, probably why i remember it, follows that nice wee par three down hill.

I also mind that uphill par 3 that was mentioned aswell, im sure we used that for closest to the pin two years on the trot and i hit green both times haha.
