I'll try and keep this as brief as possible.

I played in last Saturday's medal in atrocious conditions and shot nett 78.

On Monday I received the expected email from HowDidIDo informing me that as expected my handicap had gone up .1.

Then yesterday I got another email from HDID saying my handicap had reverted back to what it was.
It turns out the medal was abandoned due to the weather.

What I would like to know is what would have happened if I had played a tie or other competition on Tuesday or Wednesday off the higher handicap? Would I have been disqualified or would the higher handicap have been valid (albeit for only 48 hours)?

Looks like someone has made a bit of a snafu when they were doing the competition admin last weekend. The must have closed off the competition and published the info to HDID. Then at some stage after that, someone has decided to make the comp nul and void and the competition result has had to be reviewed and undone.

Sloppy housekeeping IMO.

Really you should go by what is on record at the club and not necessarily what is on HDID as there are occasional problems with bugs in the software.

If you have a comp before the results of a previuos comp are published you should raise or cut yourself according to SSS. If later it turns out that you played off an incorrect handicap you're covered.

Imurgs info would appear to be spot on, so long as you have adjusted yourself prior to actual scores being published then you have acted within the rules of the game.

BTW imurg....I am extremely jealous of your club selection!

Not so sure you are right there, it is my understanding that you must cut yourself but you cannot self raise your handicap.

I seem to recall that too.
I thought a cut came in immediately, but you had to wait until it was posted on the notice board before you could play off a higher handicap????
I could be wrong though

Listen to him, he's an authority at h/cap increases.

The concequences of playing off a h/cap which is higher than your offical is DISQUALIFICATION.
There is no penalty for playing a h/cap lower than your offical one.
So if your not sure if your 12.4 or 12.5, play off 12.4, that way you're covered. Unless you're a knob and you are officially off 12.5 :D

Yes, you must cut yourself if you have done a score under SSS (and you use SSS if the CSS is unknown). You should never put yourself up.

In this case it would be hard to DQ you as it was basically the committees error. As above, poor housekeeping. How they can decide to abandon a comp a couple of days after is beyond me. It's usually a decision taken on the day when conditions become impossible (balls moving on green, greens waterlogged etc). Incidentally, any handicap reductions still count in an abandoned comp.
