Played in a sponsored seniors open competition yesterday and the sponsors were a firm of funeral directors. Next to the first tee was a hearse full of balloons and you had to guess the amount of balloons in the hearse to win a cash prize. We were in the last group out of a total of over 140 competitors and one of our fellow competitors guessed correctly to take the cash.
The 'fun' didn't stop there as next to the hearse was a coffin perched on a trolley. You then had one chance to chip a ball into the coffin to win another prize but it also had to land in a basket inside the coffin. The same guy who won the balloon contest then chipped into the coffin/basket to become only the second person to do that on the day and won another prize.
As we went to the tee we were all presented with a sleeve of Titleist Velocity balls stamped with the funeral directors name on them.
Seeing as it was a seniors comp it was a brilliant piece of marketing but a very weird sight/experience.
Anyone else played in a comp with unusual sponsors?
