But then you'd have 10 or so different fitness regimes for one international team. As every other team will say they want their players to follow their specific fitness regime. Which is just silly. It's just the same tired old excuses by whinging managers looking for any excuse why their team may not win.

It's all just BS saying that if a player does not follow a specific fitness regime they will be injured. It's just part paranoid conspiracy, part usual whinging manager, and it's a shame that it's all swallowed up by the fans of the specific club.

And to think that all players train the same in this day and age Is naive at best.

Centre halves will do more weight training, wing backs more stamina, wingers more sprint training. Would you expect a sprinter to train the same as a marathon runner?

Some training will overlap yes, but in the age of sports science, they will be individual regimes.Remember Wenger resting one of his own players a few years ago because they were in the red zone, of playing too many games in a short space of time.

That post just show a lack of understanding of modern football or even sport or possibly just being very naive

Fitness training has been tailored for each specific player for a good number of years now

My wife plays national league hockey and even she has a tailored fitness regime.

Sturridge or in fact any player will have a specific regime and if that is ignored and the player is injured then the FA will be culpable - it has nothing to do with looking for excuses in regards future results - it's about the club ( who pay the wages of the player ) losing a player because of the incompetence of the national coaches. But it's no surprise these days with the way the FA is so detached from the ways and needs of modern football

Were you there at the training session?

It must only be Liverpool that have qualified coaches and the National team have a bunch part timers who don't know what they're doing. Players get injured all the time and not just on international duty.

Dry your eyes and get on with it.

It's already been confirmed by Liverpool that Sturridge was doing training that he shouldn't have and asked to be rested to protect himself for both his club and his country and that was ignored.

It's not the first time players have gone to England and come back injured ( not just Liverpool players ) - it's far too a regular occurrence and it would surprise me if it stems from the fossil in charge and his out of date methods and tactics.

Oh and my eyes don't need drying but great well thought out reply - will look forward to the next one

Obviously Liverpool are going to say he was doing training he shouldn't of been.

Players go away on international duty for various countries under various managers and get injured so you can't simply blame Hodgson.

Brenda is simply looking for excuses as to why Liverpool won't be as successful as they were last season and may struggle in the champions league and may miss out on the top 4.

Players get injured playing the game as opposed to training when they shouldn't have been or been asked to rest

If Liverpool are wrong and Sturridge didn't asked to be rest and wasnt doing training he shouldn't have been then I'm sure the FA will respond in kind and I'm sure Liverpool won't be compensated at all

To suggest Liverpool are looking for excuses after 3 games of the season is the typical lazy response - any club would be unhappy about losing a player through no fault of their own.

What gives Liverpool the right to dictate to ANY national side while their players are with them?

A club may offer suggestions but the national team doesn't have to listen.

Of course a club side would be unhappy about one of their players getting injured but the way Brenda is whining is pathetic, he's starting to sound like arsene Wenger

Rodger has mentioned it once

And too right the club can dictate how "their" player ( the player whose wages they pay ) should be treated - the players are transferred into the clubs not the country.

If the national team doesn't listen the clubs will start to ensure their players aren't available and it will be just another example of how poor the FA is.

So what's the answer - no more International fixtures?

How many times do we hear that Player X has been injured in training or that Player Y pulled up in the warm-up...?

Are they not following their club's training regimes?

Injuries happen in Football - it's part of the game.
If a Team wants to be thought of as one that can challenge for Honours they should have a squad deep enough to cope with it.

Less international fixtures would be a great start - get rid of the meaningless friendlies

Revamp the international scene to get the smaller countries to pre qualify into the World Cup or Euro qualifying to reduce the amount of international games played throughout the season to also allow the players to be fresher for both club and country - would also enhance the quality in the qualifying.

Players do get injured - that is unavoidable but if it's true that Sturridge asked to be rested as per his fitness plan set out and that was ignored by England - that is wrong and showing a lack of duty of care to the player - that is valid regardless of who the player is or who he plays for - the opinion would be the same if it was a Chelsea or City or Arsenal player. The FA have a responsibility to take care of the players - it appears they failed in this case and that is what has angered Rodgers. If he got injured during the match then it happens - nothing can be done to avoid those incidents happening.

Imo this is just a post from someone who wants to put club before country. That's fair enough as each to there own and Liverpool, aredefinitely a club that's followers prefer to be scouse than English. But if he'd broke his leg during the game the. You'd have moaned about that too. Intl is part of the game. Always will do, so whilst I feel sympathy for you for losing a player. Sturridge himself said he was gutted to miss the game which would suggest he didn't object too strongly to training. Players need to train when away on intl duty. Yes some can be tailored but team cohesion still needs to be worked on.

There are FIFA rules stating players must be released. If clubs wish to trade they have to play ball with FIFA. So Liverpool could ban all players from being called up, but enjoy a nice 3 match ban on all those players too.

There is always a way - only have to read the recent comments by Scholes in regards what Taggert used to do

The players could also retire from International football for a little bonus from the club - lots of ways.

In other countries the relevant FA's work alongside the clubs - for friendlies the main players get rested a lot of the time and the communication is there between the FA and the clubs to enhance both club and international football.

The English FA have got a guy who was in charge of the BBC as it's head and couldn't communicate between two cans and a bit of string - the clubs will continue to have contempt for the FA until the FA realise they need the clubs to improve the England set up.

So no warm up fixtures - that's what Norway was...? Or can you expect 11 players, most of whom don't play together week in/week out to just gel during a qualifier..?

No more Pre-Season either..?

How come other countries didn't need a warm up fixture then ?

Why don't countries always have a warm up before a competitive game ?

Other countries seem to manage ok without the need for a warm up ?

Most countries had just one game over the international week - England had two.

No idea, maybe the players get together for longer...

Everyone gets together for the same amount of time - in fact some countries have their players for less time due to travelling time - especially for the South American teams - the international break is the same length of time for everyone

England will play meaningless friendlies because it needs to pay off the cost of building Wemberlee.

Duty of Care?!

Joe Allen played for 5 mths with a shoulder injury that needed surgery.

Has L'pool never had a player injured in training? Or do their superb experts never get it wrong?

As the player is paid by Liverpool then it will be Liverpool who dictate their fitness regimes

If a player gets injured when training then he gets injured - if he gets injured when he should be resting then that's a failing ( which is the exact point that is being made by Rodgers ) - the player it appears asked to be rested as per his fitness regime but that was ignored ( that is the point which is clearly being missed )

It makes zero difference who the player plays for

This is just getting funny now. Has Rogers moaned before when players have come back injured from international duty, he knows that is all part and parcel of the game. If you have a player that has a specific training regime because he is susceptible to thigh injuries, this is then not followed and he gets a thigh injury, is that not negligent on the behalf of the England coaching staff.

The bottom line is the line is these players are owned by the club and borrowed by the country. Any special requirements made by the club should be followed.

Lets put out this situation into a different example. If I allowed someone to borrow my car and it came back with a buggered transmission then '**** happens' and you just deal with it. If I had told that person to be careful with it, not thrash it around because the transmission is dodgy, then they just drive it around in sport mode red lining it everywhere, I am well within my rights to be pissed off when the transmission breaks down, aren't I?
