That's a very sad view of events. Usually saved for football fans from the prem who have euro football to watch as well as the prem..

As a lower league football fan for most of my life I have had some wonderful moments and trips around Europe watching England and will not apologise for it.

Not in my case, as a Birmingham Bluenose I certainly don't fall into that category.

As a football fan, however, I would much prefer to watch Chelsea v Liverpool or Man City v Arsenal than any England game due to the attendant hype surrounding Ingerlund and ludicrously unrealistic expectations.

I am proudly patriotic for England and UK but do not feel comfortable with the nationalism surrounding international team sport.

That point is kind of a bit out of date now. If anything it has gone the other way and no one expects them to do much at all. Or the Spanish inquisition.

Sorry but I must disagree.

Did you not notice the change in the attitude of the media the closer we got to the recent World Cup.

From the " we don't expect to do anything" after qualifying the expectations of the press changed, This, of course, then enabled them to have a dig once the inevitable happened.

The problem is the suits won't change the current status quo as it suits their needs and so all this "look at Germany or France" is pie in the sky. This club v country issue has been a problem for many years, almost since we won it in 1966 and it won't change. As for changing qualifying, that's even more of a fairy tale. UEFA make huge money from TV rights and with more associations joining the golden goose keeps on laying so why would they consider changing

To be brutally honest no I did not based on the TV programs I watched, the papers I read and the radio stations I listened to. Yes there was the odd loony pundit who said daft things, but on the whole they did not raise any expectations and whilst most agreed we should have done better than we did, they did not hold out a great deal of hope in the first place.
