Just wondered what your clubs do in the event of a tie in the 36 hole gross club championships.

Ours runs the simple countback system for best 2nd round , but i'm wondering if some clubs operate a play-off (be it straight away or over 18 holes)

Our club used to have an 18 hole play off but it was decided that it would be better to have a winner on the day (usually play the 36 holes on a Sunday) so that the trophy could be awarded there and then. It is now second 18.

We have a 3 hole medal play off on the day, goes to sudden death if still tied after the first 3.

Helps that the first 3 holes at our course do a little loop back to the clubhouse.

Ours does an 18 hole play off.

I don't think count back is the way to go on the clubs biggest trophy. An outright winner is better.

I think finishing on the day with a 3 or 4 hole playoff is the best idea but traditions die hard dont they?

Yeah I dont see why when 2 people shoot the same score for the biggest honour at the club you then use countback. How can you be deemed the champ (when you both shoot the same score) just because you shot lower on the 2nd day/round.

IMO there should be a play-off to separate the protagonists

I guess its just a way of seperating them with the guy who handled the pressure best (last nine, last six ) taking the trophy, a play off would be nice though, but at some clubs may not be possible (last cards at ours is 9.20)

Had this problem at my last club. There were only ever 2 or 3 in with a chance of winning and more often than not there was 3 or 4 shots between 1st and 2nd. They hadn't even thought about what to do. We had to have an impromptu Committee meeting about it after the last card came in. I suggested a 4 hole play-off - 1st,11th.12th and 13th. A long par 4, a short par 4, a medium par 3 and a par 5 to finish. Sudden death after that.
I think its only been used once!

Well Guys its that time of year again when it's my turn to defend the club championship.
Can I make it 3 in a row?

It has never been done before at my club!
I posted on here last year and got good luck wishes from you lot. I've had a mixed season so far, but of late I have come into some good form. I started the year at 2.5, I slowly climbed up to a high of 3.8 (5 weeks ago) I'm now down to 2.2. So fingers crossed.

As for the question of a tie. I think we have 18 holes on the Monday, I think!
