2 day comp - what happens if the 1st day is rained off, half way through play?

We have our Club Champs on Saturday and Sunday.

The weather forecast is poor for Saturday but the weather and course will be fine for Sunday.

There’s a few scenarios which could occur:
-If play commences, but no one completes the round
-if play commences, but only some of the field finish
-if no play commences

I would assume in the final scenario, you either play 36 on Sunday (probs not possible due to size of field), or reduce it to an 18 hole comp.

But what if some people actually finish on Saturday morning and post a score? Surely that means when play commences on Sunday, it becomes an 18 hole comp but with the scores from Saturday counting?

Is there generic England Golf rules for this, or is it just “whatever your club decides to do”?

I’ve no doubt they’ll lay out the plan for each scenario between now and Saturday, but I’m curious - and can see it playing havoc with the best golfing weekend of the summer.

I would expect it to be up to the club. And when you say the weather is forecast to be bad, how bad is that? If it is just wet I would expect all to play and all to finish - lightning is obviously a different matter.

We had the same situation two years ago

Saturday ended up being a wash out

So we abandoned that round on the Saturday - 9 of us had finished but all rounds removed

We then started from scratch on the Sunday for round 1 and then had round 2 on the following Saturday

A few who played in round 1 couldn’t make the following Saturday

I can’t see a scenario where they’d retain it as a 2 day comp which would be a real shame. And also a shame for any of the scratch boys out at 8am on Saturday if they shoot the lights out and it counts for nothing!

Guidance from Committee Procedures 6E(4):

In stroke play there is no set guidance for when a Committee should cancel a round. The proper action depends on the circumstances in each case and is left to the judgment of the Committee.

A round should be cancelled only in a case where it would be very unfair not to cancel it. For example, it would be reasonable to cancel a round if a small number of players begin a round under extremely bad weather conditions, conditions subsequently worsen and play for the remainder of that day is impossible, but when play will resume the next day the weather is likely to be significantly better.

When a round is cancelled, all scores and penalties during that round are cancelled. That would normally include any disqualification penalty, but, if a player is disqualified for a serious misconduct (see
Rule 1.2) or for a breach of the Code of Conduct, that disqualification should not be cancelled.

Play suspended

I’m 4th in the nett with 65ish players in, but inevitably the rain has arrived. Lowest handicaps out first so 50+ lowest players completed rounds without any rain.

it’ll be reduced to 18 holes only tomorrow if the remainder of the field can’t complete their round

It happened to us today. Am players finished. Nobody from the pm round finished. Flooding on the greens subsided and we could possibly have gone out and finished the round. However, those at the back of the field may have struggled for light so the round was abandoned. Now, instead of an 18 holes for club champs tomorrow it is being rescheduled for a weekend next month.
