Cleaning your golf clubs

I give the clubs to HID to clean before every round and get her to clean the grips every two weeks. They are always in good order for the 1st tee. She's a treasure although she is finding it harder to fit the cleaning of the clubs in with the cleaning of my FJ's

i clean before and after each shot - i must admit i find it odd that others dont given the importance of clean faces/grooves to a solid contact and good flight/accuracy?

I've no idea how dear Mr Mimms manages to be a single figure hcp golfer when he plays with clubs that are so filthy with dried grass and mud. Grooves must be non-existant!

When I got my Mizzys I cleaned them religiously after every round. Now its once every fortnight if that. Shoes I clean once a year..

I clean mine after each shot and never do them at home.

I'm intrigued though, why do you need to clean the club before your shot if you've cleaned it after the last shot you hit with it?

What's a good way of cleaning grips guys??

Phil, good way to clean the grips is as follows, Make lots of soapy bubbles with fairy washing up liquid (or other top brand washing up liquid, none of the cheap sh"$e) cover the grip with the bubbles, then get an old hand towel (not the wifes good ones for in the bathroom) wrap the towel over your outstretched thumb and forefinger, using the edge of the towel now between the thumb and forefinger rub up and down the grip rotating the club as you go. Continue rubbing until grip is dry and friction is felt. gets them clean and very tacky again.

That's very good. How did you work that one out? I shall include into my club cleaning routine

I clean after every shot, especially if I have just hit a good one. If it's a bad shot then the club gets thrown in the bag and I'll clean it before I next use it. Clubs will get a complete valet maybe 3 times a year as in truth it bores me to tears standing over the sinks scrubbing and drying and picking out dirt 14 times.

Embarrassingly I have never once cleaned any pair of golf shoes I have ever owned although I'm quite liking my new Adidas Powerbands so might start giving them a clean once in a while.

I have a couple of towels clipped to the bag for wiping the clubs during the round.

After every round clean the clubs with warm water & WUL, using a sponge and groove cleaner if required.

Same with shoes, cleaned after every round although I never wear the same pair twice in a row.

I clean my clubs after evey round with warm soapy water and a nail brush.

Driver face, I use a softish well used pan scourer to remove the ball/tee marks. Just rub gently. Scotchbright pad can be harsh so be careful if you use one of those - don't use on chrome or paint.

Spot of WD-40 on shafts and in cavity backs after playing in rain. These can get rusty. WD40 drives out moisture and leaves a protective residue. I spray it onto a bit of kitchen paper and just rub it over.

Clean grips a couple of times over the summer with warm soapy water and rub down with towel.

White shoes. Warm soapy water, (get the dirt out of the creases) dry them off. Shoe cream or clear polish (FJ is good - £1 a tin from the pro) plus a Scotchguard spray.

I am intrigued by the WD40 shout. Is it just a case of spray it on, and wipe it off!?

With the heads on my Mizzys being forged I WD-40 them once a month, call it over kill, but that's just how I roll :D

How do you know that? You've not had them a month yet! :D The novelty will soon wear off.

I clean mine whenever I feel the need, which is probably 3 or 4 times a year max. That's not to say they're caked with mud the rest of the time. I just wipe them after every shot whilst walking to my next shot and that keeps them clean.

This is true, but that's what I'll be doing.

Ideally I'll WD-40 them 1st of every month, but like you I give them a wipe after every shot to make sure they're clean for the next, then give them a scrub for the next round when I get home.
