Cleaning your golf clubs

Im I the only sado that enjoys cleaning there golf clubs?

Spent 1 1/2 hours cleaning/scrubbing the groves & wiping down all my kit.

Then a squirt of wd40

Nice shiny kit now ready for next weekend.

This is me.... sad git! I was told very early on that if I look after my kit it will look after me, it has not happend yet but my fingers are still crossed!

Unless I've been living under some kind of false illusion. I think the grooves in my irons and the spikes on my shoes are not there for cosmetics purposes. So with that thought in mind its best to keep them clean of debris

I clean my clubs after evey round with warm soapy water and a nail brush.

Driver face, I use a softish well used pan scourer to remove the ball/tee marks. Just rub gently. Scotchbright pad can be harsh so be careful if you use one of those - don't use on chrome or paint.

Spot of WD-40 on shafts and in cavity backs after playing in rain. These can get rusty. WD40 drives out moisture and leaves a protective residue. I spray it onto a bit of kitchen paper and just rub it over.

Clean grips a couple of times over the summer with warm soapy water and rub down with towel.

White shoes. Warm soapy water, (get the dirt out of the creases) dry them off. Shoe cream or clear polish (FJ is good - £1 a tin from the pro) plus a Scotchguard spray.

you sound like a man who has a large shed or a dedicated area of a warm dry garage to do all this- try doing it in the kitchen with HID child and dog running around............I want your garage, sounds heaven as I like cleaning things (sad I know)
will WD40 bring the driver face back to looking newish and stain free?

That's me too DV, have an area of the shed set up for doing all things golf related. Bench & vice set-up for re-gripping and all the cleaning kit. I was faced with the same dilemma of HID and child running around.
I don't think cleaning your kit is sad though, you pay a lot for the stuff so looking after it is important, you wouldn't not clean your car would you?

I never clean them, ever. If they are dirty, they get a bit of spit and a wipe before I go to play a shot. Unless there is a dew or it is wet ground, then they get a wipe on the ground or a whack through long wet grass!

Of course I polish my shoes though...

For some reason my irons were rather rusty this morning. I clean my clubs after every game, as it is the only way HID will let me keep them in the house. Living in a rough area I couldn't leave them in the car.;)

We've got one of these in the garage...makes cleaning them nice and easy.
It's mean to go on the back of a buggy but it won't stay on my Powakaddy!!

I can pm you my address ha ha!

Not sure about the wd 40, but I used to baby oil my Scotty!!
Clubs get a good clean couple times a month, but I scrub them after each shot with a damp part of the towel which keeps them spot on.
There was a thread a year or two back like this and it advised Milton in a bucket of fairy liquid, been doing it since, great for the grips.

I have a small pocket brush for cleaning grooves during the round, all club heads in hot soapy water and a scrubbing brush after each round, every couple of months the grips get a clean.

Some good tips on here, especially like the WD40 approach, will add this in on a monthly basis and the tacky grip tip - will give that a try.

I clean mine after each shot and never do them at home.

I'm intrigued though, why do you need to clean the club before your shot if you've cleaned it after the last shot you hit with it?

That's a good question ! I think it is automatic, but i guess it comes from making sure it is clean before the shot , which is actually more important i suppose. I think you've freaked me out now - i think ive turned into an obsessive compulsive !

Clean the car? Now there's an interesting concept, but don't see it catching on.

Back to thread though, tips on grips seem to be about compound grips - anyone got any tips on how to clean cross-line corded ?
