That used to be the case, nowadays though the 'specialists' are much more rounded. The climbers are also very good time trialists as an example.

This year has been unusual in that the first stage had some pretty serious climbing, which wouldn't normally occur for quite a few stages.
It would be a fitting end to his TDF career if he can make it to the finish

I can say for certain that he won't make it Paris as the TdF isn't finishing there due to the Olympics. Last stage is an individual time trial in Nice
in that case he def wont then

not true about sprinters not getting to Paris too often, there is the Green point Jersey they all want to win. Sprinters all get into the Gruppeto which is all the nonr climbers making sure they make the cut off each day

Since the final day is really just a procession to the end, the jerseys will already have been sorted. The Green jersey will more than likely have been sorted quite a while before the last day, and whilst you have intermediate sprints, often the green jersey is sorted before the last weeks riding.

The green jersey can change hands many times in the TdF but winning in Paris is one goal that every sprinter wants, irrespective of whether they are green jersey winner or not

I agree every ider wants to win the final stage, but the green jersey wont be decided on that last day.

Slightly off the Cav topic but really sad news that Andre Drege lost his life in a crash on the Tour of Austria today. Professional Road Racing doesn’t only look dangerous, it is.

Very sad. It's kind of surprising, but a testament to their skills, that really serious injuries and death aren't more common place. We have a hill a mile outside the village. Tough, short climb and hit about 35mph on the way back. It is straight with a good view of any (rare) oncoming traffic, but not the best surface. Every single time I come down it I'm scared and feel how vulnerable the human body is should I come a cropper. The speeds they go, with twists and turns, incredible bike handling and courage.

RIP young man.
