Cash v card

Not if their internet has gone down. The only sales they will be able to perform will be cash transactions. Had it in our local Sainsbury’s/Argos recently. I was delighted as I always have cash on me.😁
I'd imagine if they don't have internet they'll have no POS system at all. Pretty much every system I'm aware runs on the internet in some capacity.

A lot of companies would just manually process card payments like the old days with those manual machines and a signature

No option for this any longer due to no card companies having auth phone lines, it’s all electronic now as the regs stipulate real time authorisation of payment.

Not even sure they are allowed to hold the copied card details now, definitely not allowed to keep a written CVV number which wouldn’t be end of the world with cardholder not present still allowed.

Used to frequent a curry house down in Filey. We would go every couple of months over a 10 year period. Every time they had the same notice in the window “Card machine not working, cash only”. It was a standing joke.

An accountant friend came with us one time and said “they are fiddling their VAT”.
