Neck Ties

I wore suit and tie all my working life. I still have about 30+ ties. I retired in 2008 and have only worn one to a handful of formal occasions since.
Pre Covid, jacket and tie after a shower was compulsory at every club we played at after a Seniors match, and dine only when all 16 were back in and changed. Now they all go with straight in in your golf gear with a change of shoes.
Sensible progress.

If you are playing at Bradford municipal it makes sense to eat in golf gear but if you are at Sunningdale it adds to the occasion to get changed.

Agreed. But, it needs to be a very special place for me to want to get dressed up.

Was happy to do so for the R&A clubhouse. But, some random seniors match I’ll pass.

Same for us playing in our seniors matches (mainly Dorset) I think it has become 'smart casual' now at some of the clubs (I stopped playing in the matches a couple of years ago).

Its been warmly embraced by every club we play at. One club persisted for a while but relented once they changed Captain.

I wear a tie when out delivering cars, it’s part of the company dress code.

I don’t wear one when I am in the office

I have my old regimental tie (RAPC)

A H4H tie

A couple of ACIB ties (Chartered Institute of Bankers)

A black tie for heavy funerals

A Mickey Mouse tie for when I let my hair down 😬

Oh yes 👍

I too wore jacket and tie for fifty years until retiring a couple of years ago. Always a popular birthday and Christmas present I now have over 60. Time to heavily cull and support the local charity shop.

Have around 15-20 ties which I keep considering junking, unfortunately my industry often requires the attendance of social events with suit&tie so they have to be kept.

It defo feels ott putting one on now which is clearly driven by society being more relaxed.

I've got dozens of the things but haven't worn one for as long as I can remember.

Maybe a couple of funerals/weddings and maybe on a couple of prize giving ceremonies when i was club captain 10 years ago. Not worn one for work in 15 years and now that I've retired, I cant see myself wearing one again.

Loathe to get rid of them really as I've got some lovely ties. Favourite is a pure white silk number with loads of different varieties of chickens depicted on it. Bought for £40 from a shop in Zurich back in 1998, during a flight stopover returning from Belgrade watching Newcastle in the Cup Winners Cup

I very rarely wear a tie anymore

I will wear one at my "uncles" (grandads friend who was like a grandad to me) funeral this month. Mainly out of respect as he taught me to tie a tie on my first day of secondary school in late nineties

Last time I wore a tie was at my choir’s Christmas concert…and it was self-tying bow tie…👍. I usually wear a tie when wearing the kilt…though I don’t when wearing it more casually. Other than that the last time I wore a tie was with a jacket when attending our last AGM.

Was that accompanied by "Oi! Gissat chicken tie, marra!"
😉

I've got a tie with BMGC on it. Barnsley Municipal Golf Club - had that one for over 50 years.
Newcastle University Golf Team - over 40 years.
3 ties for my 3 hole-in-ones.

My older brothers taught me to tie a tie for my first day at school aged 5.

Haven't worn a tie since a wedding in 2012.
I think I own over 25 of them - including one "proper" bow tie that I know how to do.

I used to work for one of the UKs largest formal wear supplier.

In the head office there were 4 or 5 men who wore a tie regularly. Out of about a hundred of us. CEO, 2 accountants, a formal wear buyer and some guy in customer service. There were more football jerseys in the office.

In retail it used to be compulsory until about 2010, maybe 2012, but even that got lifted when we went more into outfitting instead of selling what I call ‘office overalls’ (they call it fashion).

Ties are on the way out. Even the guys selling you a tie don’t wear them.

I own about £500 worth of ties, possibly paid £20 for the lot. Used the same one twice in the last 5 years for a niece and a nephew church event.

The only people who wear ties in my firm are the top level directors etc. On our project nobody wears one, but we are sat in a dusty project office so there wouldn't be much point. Those directors aren't project-based, they're at head office having meetings all day I should imagine.

I only wear a tie for funerals and a wedding if it was required. Can't think of a single other time I've worn one in the last decade.

Gents AGM is on 14th Feb. I’ll be wearing a jacket and tie…though I will 100% certainly be in the minority.

I’ll note, to quell debate on clubhouse dress standards, that no requirement in respect of attire for the AGM is made by the club. Not even ‘smart casual’. Normal clubhouse dress code applies. I’ll also add that clubhouse dress code permits jeans…but I predict that few will wear jeans to the AGM.

Nice Valentines date 😂.
