What do you have & why?
I've heard of.....
1. Must have played 3 Q's in past year
2. Must have played 5 Q's in past year
3. Must have Active H/Cap
4. Not in your 1st year of submitting 3 cards for a H/Cap

Does what you have in place at your Club protect the status of your Club Boards, or have some, over the years, become rather 'Micky-mouse'?

I don't think it makes any difference at my club.... we only have one board comp and that's the Club championships , which is a scratch comp.

You need an active handicap and most of them are maximum 18 handicap, although a player can have a higher handicap and still play off 18

We have 2 board comps. Scratch open and the Club Champ and both are off scratch.

If you have any handicap comps, I think all should be able to play as long as they have an active handicap.

Quite a few board comps. No special entry criteria, except an active handicap.

Thinking about this further, if by Board comps you literally mean one where you get your name in gold lettering on the clubhouse wall, then we only have the Club champs which are both off scratch, so handicaps don't come into it.

Don't think there are qualification rules other than active handicap.

We have loads of 'Board Comps'. Most (95%) don't matter much in the great scheme of things, but I think they are all important for many members as getting your name on a board really makes you feel that you have become part of the history of the golf club - and for that's something that makes me feel rather good - and proud to be a member of my club (such an old-fashioned notion that I know)

As Swingsitlikehogan has said, we have a few board comps at my club. A few have Qualifiers across the year where say for example the top 3 from all 4 qualifiers are entered into the final which is 36 holes and some have min and max handicap requirements.

4 major board comps over the summer. Each has 4 Saturday qualifying rounds where you have to be in the top 3 (4 for the Captain's prize) in your division to get into the final. Finals are also Saturdays. Captain's and President's prizes are 36 holes on the day. In addition, we have three more minor board comps with the same format. All finals have limit of 22. For all these the format rewards consistency and there are very few shock winners or cries of bandit etc. Aside from the handicap limit handicaps must obviously be competition ones (can't imagine any club would do otherwise tbh) and juniors can only win if they have a single figure handicap.....if higher then they get the prize but not name on board or trophy.

I would conclude then that your club considers that anyone with a handicap of 19 or higher is viewed with suspicion.

Can I ask the reasoning behind men (I presume that's over 19s) can play of 22 but juniors are have to be single figure to get their name on the board, or don't the men get their name up unless they are single figures.

Only scratch and counties events gets your name on the board , no mickey mouse silly stableford comps where any TDH can have a good day and never be seen again ...................EYG
