As per the above, since returning to club golf after over a decade away i've found my driving and fairway woods to be very erratic. Even when i'm playing very well my driving was iffy. I haven't been able to get a good ball flight, hitting it way too low which in the summer has been fine as they've ran for miles but it's still not been ideal. Anyway after having a couple of lessons, trying a few different things myself and a couple of drivers i'd bought I committed to a fitting to see if there really was a club out there that with my current swing could get me the results I was after.

It took 20 minutes. I hit a couple of the new Callaway range which were very similar to my current driver, I hit the G30 which I was dog mess with. Low raking hooks. I hit the Nike Vapour and wasn't any better than my driver and also the new Titleist 915 which I was abysmal with. I was handed a Taylor Made R15, a brand of club i've never owned before. I hit a few with it and it was good, still a little low but very nice. The pro went in the back with the club and came out a few minutes later with what I thought was the same club and started hitting..........

UNBELIEVABLE. I was getting a superb trajectory, they were carrying 255-260 with another 20+ yards roll. The very best i'd hit with any other had shown up 240 carry and some were down at 210-220 carry. I hit another 20-30 balls and the results were impressive. The pro then told me this was a 14 degree R15 and I was hitting it way further than lower lofts, which didn't surprise me that much but was still ridiculous that just a couple more degrees on the right club and I really got it going.

So there's a quick £300 spent, but hopefully well worth it!! The R15 probably won't work for everyone but if anyone else is struggling off the tee then maybe ask your pro if they have a 14 degree in. I did try some of the driver mini's but I still need a large 460cc head as they didn't perform as well on mis-hits.

Club Championships tomorrow, let's hope the beast works it's magic.

Changing your driver the day before a comp takes guts. Taylormade are certainly making noises in the industry these days with their stuff. I've been blown away with the SLDR S 5 wood. I have grown into a consistent method with my 913 D3 though so it's not getting swapped.

It seems the loft up campaign has worked well for you too. Just off watching an older Mark Crossfield vid about the very same thing. Wierd.

Well what i'm going to do is take out my 3 wood and carry both drivers tomorrow but i've every faith the new one will be at least on par with my old one and therefore I could actually do away with it even without much practice.

If yours is going well mate, don't even consider changing it. Hitting it well is a precious thing, no point meddling.

not happy reading this thread!

I have Taylormade RSi1 irons, Taylormade EF Tour Wedges, Taylormade Bag.....BUT Calloway X2 Hot Drivers!! :(

Been thinking about going the whole hog and getting the R15 - reading this has made it more likely I w ill be having to hide the credit card statement from my gorgeous wife (again!)

I can but dream of a 210-220 carry let alone 255-260.

I am dog dirt at golf though so I guess there is a reason for it!

Been struggling with consistency all year....

That's a better title for me, sod the driver, it's every bleedin club, exception is the putter.

even my range time is inconsistent, one night I'm hitting solid shots, everything feels right, ball is going where I'm aiming, the next it's back to pulls and slices, but it feels like I'm doing nothing different, all very odd.

Don't worry mate, just get an R15 in every loft required from driver through to wedge. Sorted!!

Could you all stop posting about how good new drivers are please?

:p

I out drove my workmate off the "11th T" at work today using my old "XCG 15*/3 wood" I put it a good 15yds past his drive and he was using an "SLDR Driver" I was well chuffed, in fact I was about 15yds short of the green in 2 "both with the 3 wood" and our 11th is a "520yd/par 5" off the yellows, needless to say modern drivers don't impress me !...
