Am I too young to own a set of Ping G15's????

What I cant see is either his swing or his physical make up But if he visits a pro/s they will be able to see both of these and other factors. They will advise accordingly.

And the point I was trying to make relates to the text I have highlighted in bold within your quote.
If an "average" 24 handicapper visited three different pros on three different days he is very likely to show them three different swings due to the fact that at that sort of handicap, unless he is a naturally gifted golfer he will not be replicating the same swing each time.
Sure, if the guy is 5'6" short, or 6'4" tall, even I can work out that he is likely to need his clubs adjusted one way or the other (shortened or lengthened). But I fail to see how a player with a swing that is not repeating itself time in, time out can be accurately measured for what is right for him.
For a professional golfer, or a very low handicapped player who is putting exactly the same swing down every time then yes..custom fitting can and will be of use.
I've lost count of the number of times I have said to my mates "Jeez, I'm swinging fast today, must try to slow it down a bit"...how can the shafts I had fitted for my usually slow swing be right for me on each and every day???

And there is the problem with a lot of the custom fitting that goes on. You need to have a reapeatable(ish) swing to make it worthwhile. If you're swinging 80mph the 90 then 70 what shaft are you going to be fitted for? If you whip it through then cosy it through what chance has a fitter got? If you're upright on one swing and then flat on the next you've got the same problem. Fit for the average and you're out 2/3rds of the time.
Standard clubs fit most people reasonably. Yes some are going to benefit from tweaks but for Joe Average I don't think it makes much difference. Once you get a repeatable swing then you've got something to work with.
I've only recently felt I've got a repeatable enough swing to benefit. When I got fitted for the MP58's recently, 80% of my swings were within a whisker of being identical in speed, tempo and plane. That, to me, suggests a repeatable swing. Now I think I'm going to benefit from a proper custom fit.

speaking to a guy at the club yesterday who was bemoaning the fitting session he had at Ping. He's an older guy, been playing years so may be assumed to have ingrained a swing, around 5'11", and not overweight.
He was expecting the fitting to offer him lots of different options to chose from but he'd been given blue dot G15's and green-dot G15's both with the standard Ping shaft - and that's it. He was really disappointed.
The club pro pretty much said ' you're average height, average build, average swing - what else did you expect - I'd have done the same'. (Ping have offered to give him another session.)

I'm the same except age, I am blue dot with standard grip and length. I did mine online with Ping and it will save me upto £100 from going to a local pro for new irons.

I did an online fitting on the Ping website and strangely it was telling me I needed to order my irons 2 degrees upright, which I found strange because my Mizunos were 1 degree flat!
I didn't trust the results I was getting so went to see my club pro who did me a deal on the clubs which matched the best internet price I found. Result!
I went with "regular" black dot everything. I swished the shafts in the pro shop, they felt good enough for me so went ahead and pulled the trigger.
He has recommended that I give the clubs a bash for a couple of months to see how I get on with them. If I want them adjusted at any time in the future I just need to take them back to him and he will make the necessary alterations, free of charge of course. I have played with them for three rounds now and don't seem to be hitting them too badly, (bad swings aside), certainly the shafts feel perfect for me. The only query I may have is with the lies. They seem a little upright compared to my Mizzies, and I have noticed that some of my divots are a little "heel heavy" which may indicate that I need to have them flattened out a little. But I'll give them a while longer before stepping onto the strike mat and altering them.

My FP's feel flat and I hit most shots of the toe, which I would have thought means I need the heads altering

When you stand as if you are addressing the ball with them, could you slide a penny underneath the toe and up to the middle of the club?

I use to be a real advocate of C/F and thought it made perfect sense. However the more I read about exploits on here the more I'm beginning to wonder. Don't get me wrong, if you are tall or short then there is an obvious need for the lie to be altered. What I don't really get is the fact that some mid-high handicappers don't hit enough repeatable shots to give the poor fitter anything more than an educated stab in the dark. Again of you have a slow/quick swing or are a little older I can see the benefit of a stiff or senior shaft but other than that I think there are plenty of players that like Smiffy and I could make do with a regular set off the shelf with regular shafts and standard lies

If you can do that Smiffy you must be addressing the ball incorrectly, OR, your arms are far too long.

:D :D

Can't see 1 degree flat making that much difference to Smiffy... especially when he hits everything 4 inches behind the ball ;)

As I said on Sunday James....I have absolultely no problem whatsoever with you swinging beautifully and losing money every week. None at all

;)

Without wanting to sound too clever, I didn't get C/F clubs until I was playing consistently. So much so, my speed rarely differed, my path and face (and impact on the board) were almost the same every swing. I'd been playing with a set of off-the-shelf clubs and hadn't gone over 80 in months.
I got a set of Mizuno T-Zoids, lengthened and upright.....
I didn't break 80 ever again, I gave up playing and when I came back to the game almost 10 years later, I went for the old clubs, not the C/F ones.

Somewhat weirdly, I soon replaced my ancient clubs with another set of C/F irons (via a set of o-t-s MacGregors) and have never had such a suited set out of the 6 sets that saw any long-term use.

I think I learned how to play with those old, old irons. I think I have relearned to play with my new irons.

I got a free 'fitting' session once - it wasn't really. Just taped up the clubs and had me hitting off the strike board, every one of them, good or bad, was markedly off the toe. A few questions and they reckoned I needed them bent quite a bit upright (does that sound right?) but did them only 2 deg. Got to admit I don't dig the toe in as often.
