Am I too young to own a set of Ping G15's????

Simple answer - NO.

BUT - make sure you get custom fitted. There is no pressure to buy when fitted at Ping, they want you to have the correct club for your swing. So, ask to try the I15's and the blades (S58s I think) then make your own mind up.

In response to a comment above, a club has to not only feel good, but it does have to look good in your eyes. If you do not like the look of a club, you will blame the club for every shot that is not 100% perfect - believe me I know this having been there a couple of years back :( Simple way to solve this one - go to a store that has a wide range of clubs and feel/trty ans many different clubs as you wish, then go to your pro to get the fitting session arranged.

Happy shopping :)

I am only a mere 29 years old!

I have been having problems with my iron play since last year when I bought a set of Nike Slingshot. A bad impulse buy I was greedy at the time and also wanted to upgrade my driver.

I have tried to get the Slingshots custom fitted but because they are cast and from the low budget end of clubs this cannot be done. So for the last month or so I have been looking around and trying different things out and nothing as felt right until today when I went down to AG and tried out the G15, oh & the MX 200.

I know this was in the nets but it is pushing me to go my club pro and see if I can try them out on the course.

What do other think about the G15 irons as a game improver?

After reading your post I fear that you are about to jump straight in again and make another impulse buy based on hype you`ve seen written by "Ping Dingers" who on the main are really justifying their preference.
Every member on here will spout verse about how great their clubs are, and many will have made that same impulse buy based more on the opinion of others.
In your post the only sensible comment I read was that you intend to go to your pro for a custom fitting.
Thats exactly where you begin, visit your pro and even a few others. They will examine your swing etc and let you try out many different clubs. You will see and feel the results. You may even see the results on launch monitors like trackman etc.
Finally you will be able to make a better informed decision based on their expert advice. And you will also have a better feel for what clubs you prefer.
My best advice for you would be to go to several different pro`s and get a more balanced view.
AND KEEP AWAY FROM AG IF YOUR SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR GAME. :D

Buy the club that you believe is best for you - but only after trying out as many different ones that you can off grass

Last week I went into our pro's shop and borrowed 2 demo 7 irons, A G15 with steel shaft and a Rapture with graphite. I also took my current 7 iron, my old X14 7 iron and an ancient Yonex forged ADX100 graphite out to the practice ground and probably hit 100 - 150 shots with them.

For me the G15 felt a bit "dead" unless I creamed it, the Rapture was a joy to hit as was the old Yonex but not quite as far. The worst 2 were my current club and the X14.

Unfortunately I can't justify the cost of the Raptures and realistically would probably be better off eventually going with a graded matched set from hybrids to irons when i can afford them.

Did they all point the wrong way? :)

So a 24 handicapper has a consistent swing enough for custom fitting?? You must be joking, until you have a consistent swing and are not over tall or small then there is little point.

Your comment about visit several Pro's, Do you know if you don't buy most will charge you for the pleasure?

"you`ve seen written by "Ping Dingers" who on the main are really justifying their preference"

lol this really did make me laugh, Ping make THEE best GI irons on the market without question and on a thread about GI irons I would have thought Ping would be high on the list.

The comment about AG is just as bad as your "Ping Dingers" made up expression, in fact I would have thought some of the guys at AG are more trained than some Pro's, they deal with this day in and out not a set or two a week.

100% agreement with the honourable gentleman.
I play off 12 and the only consistency in my swing is it's crap..

Yes I can see that he is a 24 handicapper, What I cant see is either his swing or his physical make up But if he visits a pro/s they will be able to see both of these and other factors. They will advise accordingly. You`re stating that because he plays of 24 he would`nt benefit from custom fitting. He may play of 24, that doesnt automatically mean he has a poor swing. Just maybe with a better fitted set of clubs he might improve his handicap drastically.
Quote from Ping website
Regardless of your ability, properly fit
clubs can help you hit straighter, more consistent shots. By matching the proper club specifications to your swing, a fitter can help reduce or eliminate undesirable shot patterns, like hooks and slices, allowing you to play closer to your full potential and making the game more enjoyable.

I dont know what the pros in your area are like, but from personal experience most are very helpfull and wont hit you with a fee. Ask before you try. You further make out that salesmen at AG are probably more qualified to advise on clubs than the club pros. I`m sure all the young apprentice pros who study for years in all aspects of golf to become a qualified PGA Pro would be likely to disaggree.( BobMac could advise on that one)

Ping are "THEE BEST GI IRONS ON THE MARKET" I`ll stand corrected on that statement when you provide definitive proof on that one.

My reference to Ping Dingers is directed to Ping owners who make blinkered views that Ping are best
and all others are crap. I use Titleist, but I dont ever state that they are the best clubs out, nor do I come on here recommending them to others. They suit me and thats it.

If any of my comments have upset or aggreaved you then "Tough sh*t" WhoGivesA

Practice ground? what's that all about?...you never mentioned that you've been PRACTICING!,.. that's it!, you're cut by 2 shots for all our friendly games! :p :p :p

Trust me they don't. Most are glorified shop assitants who work in a golf store and not Tescos. There are some at one of the AG's near me that don't even play golf. Having seriously considered a career with AG and having gone as far as talking sales commission targets etc. there are some that are very good including some PGA qualified staff who offer a quality service and others that will flog whatever they can to make a quick buck.

Sorry James. I thought that my post was quite clear.

I was evaluating the different characteristics of a variety of club heads and shafts in relation to a variety of swings - about 100 - 150 of them.

Who said anything about practicing?

Is there anything you have done in golf except get the golf standard you talk your game too?

You no jack about me so keep you prejudiced opinions to yourself. I was actually looking for a job at the time having been made redundant and so a chance to work in a store connected with a game I enjoy seemed a perfect match. Or would have preferred I signed on and scrounged off the social.

As it happened the commission figures and package wasn't what I wanted and I was offered a job in recruitment where I had previous experience. Happy now you narrow minded fool. Funny how whatever the subject and whatever pseudonym you go under you always want to have a pop. Sad.
