Just back from our AGM and to be honest i thought it was the most pointless thing ever. the itinery was:

* last years accounts

* welcoming the new captain and committee and fairwell to old captain/vice captain

* brief will we put ourselves forward for more interclub stuff (NAPGC etc)

* awards hand out

* beer with the new captain.

Our club is a swindle style group within a P&P course and to be honest apart from the awards hand out and captain, vice captain change over i thought it was pointless.

At no point was any of the members asked for imput/feedback on any issues, was any of the members asked if they had issues that would like to bring forward or did any of the members have any imput at all.

Is that standard for a AGM meeting. if so i think their pretty bloody pointless.

There were a couple of issues i wanted to have a view on, for example why members dont put theirselves down for inter club comps, yet at no point was a members view/opinion requested or prompted.

At our AGM, if you want to raise a point then you must put it in writing and it must be sent in before the AGM. No questions are taken on the night from the floor.

see AW< this i understand as the committee can then judge if its valid or not, but to sit there aand moan " we need more committment to inter club comps" to me is pointless. if they are serious about more interest, id have opened it up to the floor with " we seem to be struggling with interest in interclub comps, does anyone have any suggestions in increasing interest. "

one interesting thing come from todays event though.......

Ours is a bit like AW's. You have to submit AOB in writing in advance. They did open it up to the floor a few years back and it was mayhem. Its the usual thing - accounts and how they will raise capital and what it was/will be spent on (Bunkers PLEASE - take a look next time you play they are a disgrace - sorry rant mode kicked in).

Introduction to the captains, election of forthcoming committee members, votes on club business (rule changes etc). All boring standard fare really.

fair play homer, atleast next years one will see some silver coming to oddsocks (2 monthly medals in the bag and hopefully the winter singles), im sure ill feel better coming away with some rewards next season, may take the edge off it.

They are a total waste of time I agree, the committee already have in place what they want and vote it through themselves.

Oddsocks, that's pretty much the standard baseline agenda, anything else has to submitted in advance but why wait until the AGM to raise an issue.
Been honest OS i think the established members have a good chat before hand & alot of the voting is in hand , alot of members dont go so its OUR own fault ..im jusy telling you how it is , im not complaining it would be hypocritical of me to complain coz i dont attend & as they say if you dont vote for change dont complain when it stays the same.. i play golf for fun & dont wana get involved in that end of things.

There a waste of time. Only time some members go into the clubhouse.
Fair few turned up to ours this year as the committee was trying to get rid of the pro yet we were told it was not on the agenda and for the first time ever there was No Any other Business. Biggest waste of time ever. Especially when we had to go back 7 days later for an SGM lol.

No, I think they're great. I went to ours the other night and got talking to this fittie behind the bar. Turns out she's the captains daughter or something like that, but that doesn't bother me.

She said some other fella has been hanging about the last 6 months or so, but he doesn't float her boat.
