Following the birdie thread the other day I have sunk to new depths. Monthly s'ford today, 10 out of 12 FIR, 8 GIR, 35 putts  the putter was at an all time low temperature.

2nd: missed par from 3 feet
4th: 3 putt from 15 feet
6th: missed par from 3 feet
7th: 3 putt from 15 feet
10th: missed birdie from 2 feet
11th: missed birdie from 4 feet
13th: missed par from 3 feet
15th: missed par from 2 feet

Birdie conversion, 0 from 8 and to be honest, only one of them ever looked like going in and that was on the 18th. I honestly don't know what has happened to my putting the last few weeks but it needs to change soon

Must admit that does sound pretty poor.
However that wouldn't worry me in the slightest,in fact I would say you played well, just
putted poorly.
The good thing is putting can turn around in an instant.
I would certainly be taking the positives.

I would say the same.

8 GIR's is on a level with about a 3 h/cap so I wouldn't be panicked. Bad day on the greens.... but that's no excuse for 3 putting from 15ft OR missing 2ft putts. The rest are 'just one of those days'.

Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of positives, in fact I played really well. It's been 4 weeks on the spin now where I've played well and not taken my chances on the greens. To be honest, I do wonder if it was in my head today as all week I've been thinking I could score well if I could putt. I can't remember ever putting that badly and I'm sure it will turn round but god it's frustrating playing this well and wasting it on the greens.

buy a mallet putter. as much as I love the look of blade putters, having a proper alignment aid makes putter x10 easier!

My putting inside 6 foot is generally very solid. I read in Tiger's book that inside 6 foot, always aim inside the hole and hit it firm, don't be worried about a potential 4 footer coming back. I miss some obviously but my holing out is a strong part of my game, maybe try this technique on shorter putts, see if it helps.

Homer will tell you my holing out has always been very good. I just don't seem to be able to make anything at the moment. The last few weeks I've been hitting good putts but nothings been dropping but today was awful. The putt on 10 from 2 feet didn't even hit the hole :o

Well, I figure I shot 11 gross, less 9, so net 2.

Three stabbed the first on very slow, tined, rubbish greens. Bogeyed the second after a cracking drive and a flushed 4i into a green side bunker. Then blocked the tee shot on the third into a load of leaves, never to be seen again. Couldn't be bothered to walk back, as I'd probably end up 4 over minimum after 3, and that's hard to come back from.

Shame, as I've been striking it well recently.

Back to you, you're clearly playing well, and you aren't a bad putter. You just need a bit of belief.

Hawkeye, I'm exactly the same...but every round! Think I 3 putted at least 7 times yesterday.

As Gary says, try a mallet putter. I did for the first time yesterday and before ya say I've just contradicted mi sel, I hadn't even managed to practise with it on the carpet at home or on the putting greens before the round so the weight and feel was brand new. However, line wise I was straighter, just kept hittin em 5/6 foot past on greens that were soaked in parts and just wet in others!

I picked up an Odyssey Dual force Rossie II on eBay for £20 inc postage after messing around in DG for 30 mins with other mallets so I'm hoping for improvements for little cost when I'm used to it. If not, I haven't lost any cash really.

I don't need a new putter, just a bit of practice and a few putts to drop to get my confidence back.

Try that gizmo Homer has for his putter...

Its all in the head even this post is highlighting a negative part of your game. Forget about it and move on to the next green forgetting what happened on the last.

Every putt is makeable.

I agree it's in the head, it is difficult to get out though :D

No, but I was wondering whether i need something like that for the dark winter evenings. Any good suggestions?

Not really, but any of them will do. Just practice knocking the short ones in at pace. 5 minutes a day, and you just get used to potting them. It just makes the short ones routine. Line them up, bang them in. The only way to putt.
