90% versus 3/4

Im not tarring all with the same brush however I do believe that unfortunately this is a problem in some of these handicap competitions. The 90% favours the higher player more as alot of high handicap players usually can string stretches of half decent golf together but may just have a 2 or 3 bad holes but if your giving them 15 shots or whatever youre severely up against it.
As I said though I don't play handicap events as it simply doesn't interest me, I don't get the same buzz I get from playing scratch events. There's no reason why anybody can't play to at least 18, so I think a handicap higher than 18 should be a social only handicap as 1 stroke a hole is plenty in my view.

What a stupid comment! I'm currently 21 handicap and hit buffer a few times this season and also had I think 11 0.1 though some bad golf and also stupid decisions whilst playing.
I've had lessons on pretty much every aspect of my game I'm trying to get lower but seem to have hit a wall. I've come up against a few handicap snobs like your self and it's laughable. Especially if i par a 2 shot hole. Luckily my main playing partner is off 2 he accepts and understands I have a blow up at some point in a round. When we've played pairs I've been called a bandit mid round to which he's stuck up for me a few times knowing my blow up isn't far away.

I'll happily play to 90% or 3/4 if that's what the comp is. I can assure you I'm not planning on staying at 21 and I can send you my HDID user for you To see I clearly won't be able to compete to an 18 or below at the moment. I've not won anything although it's been said by many I've got a big win coming in me if I can just hold my game together for a full round.

do you par any holes or are they all bogeys or worse, dont suppose you have ever had a birdie.......

It doesn't bother me higher handicaps winning anything good luck to them and I wish you the best of luck. I'm just simply stating my reasons for not playing in handicap events, I get they may offend some people but I don't say things to keep people happy. I say things how I see them and if some people don't agree then fine but I ain't going to change.

when 90% taken a 1 shot reduction in handicap from 6 - 15, then 2 shots 16-25 in 4bbb, no reduction 0-5, which partner would you choose????????

The one that brings a flask of coffee. I love coffee.

Waiting with interest to see where this is going.....

Only opened the app and that's the number on there. I've had some in better ball and find rounds but they are not there. I don't see how a score on a hole is relavent to my Hc? To be fair if a birdie isn't an almost dead cert I don't 100% attack a putt as amount of times I've gone for birdies and walked off with a bogey is crazy. I'd rather lag it close and tap in a par for 3 points
I'm not claiming to be a golfing god but I enjoy playing and do to the best Of my limited ability.

After this years winter league, I won't bother next year. My partner and myself both cat1 really had no chance. He got 2 shots off me and we got dicked twice by high hcs. It's not right when you get to our hardest par 3 that's a stroke index 7 211yds off whites but then play off yellows at 150yds and giving them both shots??? Last week we were 3 under gross BB and was one up, I lost interest as all I could foresee was we had to birdie most holes to stand a chance. It's a lot easier making a par then a birdie!

Only 2 cat 1 players have qualified to go thru quarters, one plays off 2 and pp is 19, the other is off 5 with a pp off 8/9.
I can understand the 3/4's favoured lower hcs but this 90% ain't right.

I've just checked managed exactly 56, a few of them are eagles and one was a hole in 1
A birdie to you is more like a par for me in comparison when looking at handicap and abilities. As for the hole in one congrats. I know you're merely taking the piss and passing your evening by to cure boredom. Either that or you're extremely arrogant and don't believe people of a higher handicap don't belong on a course in your presence. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and put you down as bored and looking for entertainment.

I've just been through the BB comps on our masterscoreboard results page just to see if my perception matches reality.

I've been at my place for 7.5 years now and before last year BB comps were generally won with anywhere from 43-47 points. I don't ever remember anything higher than that.

Last year ranged from 44-50. The highest winning totals (and hc's) were 50 (13/17), 50 (10/14), 49 (9/26), 48 (3/12) and 48 (22/23). They take a lot of catching!

Think the problem here is like the tax laws every time you change something someone gains some don't.
what was the reason for the change to 90% ?

The amount of shots a scratch man has to give a 28 capper is harsh as most very high capers have 7 and 8s or more on their cards in medals this keeps their handicap up
if they do that in a match play its only one hole but they get 2 shots on 10 holes.

But you can't please everyone , but can't see the reason for the change.

I suppose we are different in Scotland,at least up here anyway. We don't have BB opens all ours are stroke play. No winter comps at my club either as they would go the same way off the short winter course.
Summer comps off the full course are 90%, but I don't play the BB,Greensomes or 4 some. Nothing to do with Handicap's, purely to do with arranging games.
