90% versus 3/4

High handicapper does not always equate to bandit however I would define a high player as anyone over 13

With the HC range in comps going up to 28 that makes 13 a mid HC -

High HC for me is anyone over 18

No of course not my regular playing partners are all over 45 however they are all good players, just because I have an opinion doesn't mean yall have to agree with it. That's how I'd describe players as most 14+ players I've played with generally struggle to get round the course without losing balls which is why I'd describe them as high players

Playing 90% of a shortened winter course will obviously benefit the higher handicapper as it benefits the lower handicapper on the full course (providing they are off a true handicap). An obviouse solution at club level is to have divisions.

The same arguments came out when full difference came out for singles matchplay yet results in clubs around our area still suggest that the lower your handicap the better your chances.

The original proposal was for full for BB but it was blocked although it's pretty standard in most other countries.

I have always thought that if you lose shots of your handicap then it should be the same amount of everyone.

Mid to me would be cat 2 6-13 or whatever it is, you could also sub-divivde cat 1

It's a semantics at the end of the day - the person who normally suggests high HC is cat 3 and above is your regular HC snob - they also normally suggest that people should only get one shot a hole and anyone over that can't be bothered to practise

Simple matgs suggest 14 is the mid range for HCs and indeed when looking at the club HC then 18 is your mid point

According to Masterscoreboard's database of over 1000 Clubs and 1/2 Million golfers 4% are Cat 1 and 19.5% Cat 2, so you're suggesting over 75% of Golfers are high handicappers! daft just daft.

Even the 1 shot per hole is arrogant, some people love the game but will never reach that level, that won't be through lack of effort, just not suited to the game.

Below is a link done by Scottish Golf about some of Golf Myths, makes very interesting reading, especially the 3/4 v full difference stats.

I've just read all 12 pages of that and there's nothing there about BB, which is what this thread is about

Probably sounds about right looking at some of the guys I see on the course lol no seriously though if 14 is mid what's an 8? Is that low because I certainly wouldn't describe it as that

I posted it as others had mentioned singles comps as well and the report makes interesting reading, apologies for the confusion.

That's because we can't help but compare others to ourselves. All the time I was coming down in hc I thought a couple lower was way better than me and a couple higher was easy to play off. Each time I got lower my perceptions of other handicaps changed.

Of course 8 is low and very good, probably best sticking with Categories.

That'll teach me for skim reading, didn't see the references towards singles.

FWIW, although I think 90% tips the scales too much, I fully agree with full difference in singles.

Sorry I have to disagree but i would say an 8 is not bad if I was to describe them, I would class anybody as low until about a 4
I think Region3 is correct it's perception, whilst we would all like to be Cat 1 (5 and below), I think anyone off single figures will be a good player and has a low handicap,

Ok well have to agree to disagree but cat 1 2 & 3 should be low mid high unless you want to start subdividing categories. It's probably most people not wanting to admit the fall into the high category lol

Cat 4 would be high to me.
