7-pointer - more fuel for the 18 maximum agitators?

The gods of golf give but they also take away.

Today in a Medal round, the same player, on our 15th with a devilishly difficult pin placement, racked up a score of 23 for the hole. He didn't get chopped this time, even with a stableford adjustment of 15.

His FCs and the group behind must have really enjoyed watching that!

Christ!! I've had some high ones but that takes the biscuit! How on earth do you mange that! I actually managed an 11 the other week! First double digit in a long time! 3 three off the tee to start with and then had to chip it back on to the fairway on a long par 5. Thought that was a horror show.

Exactly! How do you manage that. It's the 15th hole and you hit 16 shots more than you need to get a point! Must have been a joy for his playing partners.

I witnessed bobmac hole a mid iron from "a fairly long way" on the 5th at Beedles lake GC. for a 2.
I also saw a fairly good player hole his tee shot on the 1st (par 4) at Moseley GC in Birmingham. for a 1, nett zero.

Got to love this stuff.

Not had such luck myself, but one day.... one day... please?! :)

Most I've had was 21....

Drive long into rough, lost
Play provision for 3 into a bunker
Fat just out of bunker for 4
Thinned 80 yards for 5
Topped into bunker 6
Fat out of bunker for 7
Topped into dry yellow stake water hazard 8
Two attempts to get out before claiming unplayable so drop out for 11
Proceed to scuff, top, thin etc back into the ditch/WH and re-drop 3 times now on 17.
Finally manage to chip the 60 yards over the ditch to the back just off the green 18
Duff the chip to the edge 19
Roll it down the hill towards the pin 20
Knock in the 3 ft putt to save 21...

That was a sad day.

The last few posts just made me think of a trip to Royal Cinque Ports with a friend who is a member there, I had only just been playing golf for a year, and this was a course I had not set my sights anywhere near on playing whilst being so green, my 12 month target had been getting round a nice parkland course down the road.
Well put it this way if swings per £ were the gauge of golf success, then boy did I have a cracking round of golf............. Having given up scoring my round early on we guessed at the end that I must have taken circa 200 strokes!!!
4 years on and my friend has invited me back!! The demons between my ears are stockpiling the Vodka as I type. :ooo:

Think he needs to stick to stableford!

Haha that puts my mate (28h/cap) 3 for 5 points on a par 4 last weekend firmly in the shade!!!

He did follow that with this
Par 3 4 5 4 3
Score 5 8 9 8 6

A few exceptional examples illustrate nothing, except how rare these events are. 28 handicappers are often great on one hole, hideous on 2 or 3 others. Inconsistency rather than lack of flashes of talent is their problem. Means nothing for handicapping.

I managed to sink a 15 foot putt to scrape a score of 12 on a par 4.
Cos no-one wants a 13 on their card...!

Ha.. I recall marking a mates card once at Stevenage GC. He chopped his 5 wood all the way down the left of the 1st hole. I lost count of how many so asked him... With an angry face he said "put me down for a 20"
