I played with a few lads yesterday in an open comp at vicars cross golf club near Chester, and after finishing with a modest 88pts we thought we done well until we heard the best score in was
122pts from 4players with handicaps of 1,3,4,9 playing off 3/4 aswell!

The format was best 2 on 1st 6holes,best 3 on 2nd 6 holes and all 4 scores on last 6 holes.

122 pts is taking the proverbial is it not?

I guess 108 equates to 2 points per scoring person so would expect the winning score to be slightly higher than this. Last time we played this format at our club I think 119 was the winning score but have certainly seen scores in the 120s in the past. Certainly a very good score but not an unrealistic one imo (they only lose 4 of their 17 shots in 3/4 format too)

I did the maths today Stu, and it equates o the folowing:-

An average of all hitting 4.5 under their handicap, and coming in for each other PERFECTLY, also taking into account the 4 shots they lost due to 3/4.

It is possible, but can be suspect. The result is still under review.

We got 94 in the same comp, 4th was 99, I think.

It equates to a team score of 14 under par off 3/4's handicap. I once played a similar type event, the group in front of us won it with a ridiculous score yet we watched them thrashing around in the rough and duffing shots all over the place all day. There was absolutely no way they shot the score they claimed they did. That's the problem with these formats where you are marking your own card, especially if there are decent prizes on offer.
