Played on Saturday. Shot net 70 (2 under) after parring in from 12, so poor start, solid finish. Can't really complain as I never thought I would be in contention. However, the winner shot 69, and gets on a board so a bit gutted. 2nd is first of the loosers.

However, first place gets £90 sweep, and said board. 2nd place was split between 5 (no count back for sweep, but there is for the blazer points comp (20 for a win, one for 20th, to win a nasty green bus conductors jacket at the end of the season). So, 19 points towards a shiny nylon jacket, £10 sweep. Wow. 0.4 cut. £10. Well worth getting out of bed for.

Is it just me, or is 2nd place just rubbish?

Re: 2nd in a bard comp

2nd place is the first loser was always my mantra in my uber competetive (pre golf) days, nowadays I find that I can relax and just enjoy competing

At last!!.....something good about getting older! :D

Re: 2nd in a bard comp

I'm always happy with top 3 as it gets the prize money (well shop vouchers but you get the picture) and always aim to win every event I peg it up in but realistic to know 8/10 it won't be my day. On those other 2/10 days though I'm there or there abouts and its in the lap of the gods how close I get. If I've palyed as well as I can and not left any on the course and come 2nd to a freak score then I'm happy especially if theres a handicap cut too.

82. 7 over on the front, double bogey on 10, single on 11, then par golf due to a sudden inexplicable attack of focus. Was off 11.5, now back to 11.1.

Good shooting Murph. Know what you mean about second - you go away with the "if only" feeling. If I'm not destined to win I'd rather come 3rd, 4th, 50th or whatever and know that I did my best on the day but many others did better.

Still, on the bright side, you have got off 12 after ..How many years??

As much as I'm sure that most of us hackers would be happy with second. You sound a bit disappointed! You're way to competitive!

Joking aside though. I know what you mean about coming second though. I used to hate it in my racing days. First means that you are the best on the day. Third means that you were good enough to finish in the chocolates. Second just means that you weren't good enough to win! Well that's how I always looked at it when racing. Very negative, I know! But I was very competitive.

Happy for you though. But I know how much getting your name on the board can mean.

Onwards and upwards.
